My track/street toy - 92 Honda Civic

I bought this car in college and ended up lowering it. From there it began to spiral into a track car. I raced it in local auto-x events for fun and decided that it wasn't fast/fun enough. I wanted to keep it street legal as well.
by this point it looked like this:

And I had swapped a vtec head on the stock 1.5L (auto tranny)
Then in Nov '05 I put it in the garage for what I thought might be a year, but ended up being a few.

So I removed everything that wasn't absolutely needed and shed almost a couple hundred lbs. I went as far as chiseling the sound deadening out on a 0° night for an extra ~5 lbs.

I got a free D16z6 with bad bearings so that was gong to be my base for a turbo build. Forged rods & pistons went in to a freshened block.

6 puck clutch & 8 lb flywheel

forgot I had installed these already and it was a looong weekend with lots of fire and cutting w/ no press! kinda fun looking back now.

since turbo setups like fuel...

old setup on its way out

I think it's easier to drop the motor on these cars than pull it out.

Motor is out, time to strip the rest of the car down.

standard honda cancer of course

found replacement arches but had to fab the rockers.

Here's that sound deadening I mentioned earlier...

now an empty shell

for some reason, I decided to try shaving the engine bay like you see hot rods and muscle cars having, since the bay would have very few things in it like a hot rod or old car would.

Welded all the holes and ground them smooth

about sanded through my fingers getting this bay smooth - never doing another shaved engine bay again!

the new color

Tried the "$50 paint job" on the roof

the rest of the car was Rustoleum spray paint

Lots of wiring to do next.

factory harness has all kinds of extra wire from all the things I removed from the engine/car. Plus relocating the battery.

Also took some things from the bay like the fuse box and moved in inside the car for that old school clean engine bay.

new motor in

Finished product!

put the CF hood on and painted my old wheels black.

also took the lightweight factory enkei wheels from my 96 civic HX and polished them.

sway bars & subframe brace to prevent subframe tear out which can happen on these cars from running a big rear sway bar.

HVAC was extra weight so more important things went there.

the turbu setup I had been piecing together all along... near complete.

then things got delayed due to some problems...

used tranny began crunching 3rd gear.

so might as well put in Limited slip while it's apart! That was OBX LSD and it was poorly machined so I had to fix that.. never buying their products again.

I started to hear some rod knock but replaced the rod bearings early so there was no other damage caused. Did it through the bottom of the motor in the car so it was quick.

Head gasket began to leak so I replaced that and copper sprayed the hell out of this one.

Finally got to enjoy the car for a while and finish breaking in the new motor.

turbo finally installed

Learned my lesson buying a used turbo... time for a rebuild

and upgraded turbine

lots of bugs to work out when boosting a car that was not intended... had ignition issues, and now the wastegate is leaking.

merry xmas!
The tree farm guy was like "it's going inside there??"

Then last summer I noticed that the Rustoleum had dulled over the years, so I wetsanded & polished the car and now:

and found a good deal on some rare wheels

But I'm selling them now cause I got a deal on these

I'm kind of a wheel whore.

So this year I will replace the wastegate (maybe go external) and finally get some dyno #'s. I would like to see 250 to 275. that will be plenty for me because the car kind of scares me. I'm starting to get used to the tall, slow & steady truck.

I used to have a 95 Civic, but that ended up in a tree good luck with the rest of your build.

Yeah not fun. "Friend" thought it'd be a good idea to grab the wheel on the highway since we missed the exit.

Looks good. I've always loved the EG hatches. In high school my friend had a 92 Si. I wanted to buy that car from him when he got rid of it, but it basically fell apart on him. He had a front end collision and drilled out the front radiator support and when he reinstalled it, he bolted it in, but didn't have it re-welded, so when he jacked up the front of the car, the front end went up, but the car didn't.

It's gonna look great with the TE's. What size are they?
