96 Escort problem with hesitation/lack of power
So my buddy has a 96 escort that he really doesn't want to get rid of. Overall it's been a good car and he's put over 200,000 miles on it. So here's the problem.
It has a bad problem with hesitation and lower power under these conditions:
1) When first started
2) Going around large turns at high speeds
3) When it's hot outside (over 100* six months a year here)
So far he's replaced:
MAF, O2 sensors, vacuum lines, throttle body, and a few other things I don't remember.
He thinks it's a vacuum leak and was crazy enough to start the engine, then move an open bottle of propane around trying to see if the engine rpm's increased anywhere. No luck.
When he unpluggs the MAF the problem pretty much goes away.
Any ideas?

I would like to get him a Toyota but I doubt he would go for it. Anyways we found a crack in his exhaust manifold.
I think that's probably it. Any thoughts?

So no new exhaust manifold yet. He took on the intake manifold and replaced that with all accompanying gaskets last weekend and put it back together thinking there was some vacuum leak in there but no luck. Same problem.
Now an exhaust manifold is ordered and that'll be the next shot.
