Which ATV to buy?
I sold my toyota motorhome today. $$$ gotta love Toyota resale... and am in the market for an ATV. I don't know a lot about ATVs and don't know what to get. I'm stuck between getting a 4x4 or sport model. I would like to have a 4x4 but want something fast too. I've been looking at the 660 Raptors, but wonder if I should get something in the 450 size. Anyone here have Raptor?
Anyone know a good ATV forum?

I have a Z400, but I have to trash it going thru knarly trails that require a 4x4, but i prefer dunes. Depends on what terrain u want to ride. Go talk to a dealer and they will point u in the right direction, as long as they have a good selection that is.

Yeah that Wolverine looks pretty sweet. I'm trying to figure out what I'll be riding most. My nearest area to ride (2 miles away) is a sandy river that usually runs low enough to drive trucks or whatever down it. Mostly hard packed sand, softer dry sand and occasional mud and is the place I usually take my 4R.
It's a tough choice. I would like something that would handle mud like a 4x4 and hillclimbs, but that new 06 Yamaha 700R is looking so nice and that's about what I have to spend.
I had been looking at the used 660R but after reading everything and how they're "tippy", That 700R is making me drool.

it is. I think I'm going to get it. They're selling in the low 6K on the internet. I paid $3800 for the 91 toyota motorhome, ebayd it, ended it early for 6k.... So really, i'd be getting a brand new 700R for $3800... Right? And it would be brand new. It would take all my money but... I would be mad at myself if I got an old USED 660R and wasted the rest of the money, Right?

I thinks its going to have to be the 700R.
Dry Weight 396 Lbs. vs 516 lbs Wolverine 450 4x4
686cc vs 421cc
The Wolverine and 4x4 ATV are sweet though. Wish I could get both.

I have an Arctic Cat and it's been great. It's only a 300 (they do have the 650 twin too) but a good all-around atv. A little of everything mixed in. Sounds like you're set on a Yamaha though. Toyota does have a 4.4% stake in Yamaha anyway!

If you are trying to decide between the YFZ 450 and a Raptor 700R, its a simple choice. If you want something dependable and fairly comfortable for trail riding, get the Raptor. If you want something strictly for racing, get the YFZ 450.
I really think you should give the Wolverine 450 4x4 a serious look. Yes, its a heavier machine but unless you plan on racing MX or doing a lot of serious jumping you arent going to really notice the weight.

A Honda 400EX or TRX450R would be my choices. The 400EX is a blast to ride and from what i've believe they're the most popular selling sport ATV.

All great bikes guys, wish I could get them all. Thank you for the recomendations and forum link. I will still ponder my options until tuesday gets here but I'm pretty set on the 700R. There's a lot of sand and sand dunes around here and lots of trails. And the 700R seems perfect and something I won't outgrow. I emailed around for prices last night and got a price of $6199 +$50 doc fee. Not bad.
I know it's a monster bike and I don't plan on racing, but when a buddy pulls up on a 660R or a Banshee, I want them to eat my dust. You know how it goes.
Is it Tuesday yet?

The Raptor is not designed to be a race quad, its a trail quad.
