Yeahp, Got me a new mountain bike
Well after hours of searching I finally found a mountain bike I liked.
Mongoose Spire AL. All welded aluminum frame, weighs maybe 7-10 lbs. Its a huge difference in my old one, which weighed upwards of 30lbs. No back suspension, but that's fine by me, I never did notice any difference with the back shock, except maybe the extra weight. Rollin' on 26" tires, so my set of studs will fit. Didn't go for the disc brake, but that's fine by me as well, I have a better feel for the linear pull brakes anyway; and I can swap rims with the studs too. 18-speed, with some pretty low gears, great for hilly country like around here.
Took it for a test hop for a couple miles on pavement and it rode like a dream and it actually shifted! (Old bike's front had not shifted in 2 years and the back would really clunk around before it decided what gear it wanted to be in). This weekend, I'm hoping to try it on a couple trails. I've also begun transferring accessories from the old bike to the new one.
It could have been better, sure. But I got a steal-of-a-deal on it, and couldn't pass it up.
Will snap pics tomorrow.

OMG mountain bikes
Here is where I get to boast:
Brand new Specialized Stumpjumper 29er built up as a singlespeed with chris king hubs, stans notubes rims, tubeless tires, White Brothers carbon fiber rigid fork...whole thing weighs 21 pounds...total price about 3500 USD but I get stuff at cost so about 2200 for me.
Not that I'm bashing the mongoose, all that matters is get out there and ride and wheel and get dirrrty!!
