Should I go get this truck?

http://sacramento.craigslist.org/car/309453597.html

She looks very clean, but the V6 with the lift/tires makes me a little nervous. I'll be a full time student, and I don't want to get raped on gas... But damn, that blue is nice and shell and the lift. All the ladies will like it. And so will I. She'll be nice and dirty all year long though.

From my experience with the 3.0 I'd guess 10 mpg. If you're a full time student get something better on gas. Ladies like guys with money too. It's a nice truck but in Sac you have alot to choose from.

Well you have two very different trucks there. The first LOOKS very off road worthy - and it has been regeared but I saw no discussion of lockers. (Big minus)

The second is a SAS with a rear welded gear (perma lock) no front locker. If you really want to get into wheeling I say keep looking. Though 5K for the SAS is not bad - but you will have to put a locker in the front if you really get into wheeling....

That what I was thinking too. The 5K is good, but the welded rear would have to go, especially with her being a DD for me. The wheeling is going to be minimal, maybe some very bad fire roads and mud, but that's about it. I think I'll wind up sticking with a relatively stock 4 banger.

If your not gonna wheel the heck out of it either truck is not worth it, a stock truck would work fine with some 31" AT's on it.

So I decided to go for a 1st gen instead. My dad has one, and I love it. I also love the simplicity. I came across one on ebay that looks very clean, but it has been flagged as a gross poluter in CA. I might be able to register it in OR though. What would cause a gross polution, and is it an easy fix?

Wow! Now that's what I'm talkin' about. Dude, I would be all over that thing. Worry, about smog later. A pickup of that era, in decent shape is a score regardless. The fix will work itself out in the wash.

I would find out what gears it has in it but it is a very nice looking truck from the pictures supplied if your lucky it has 5.29 or 5.71 gears and it will probably get like 15-18 mpg.

He thinks there are maybe 4.88s in her. And he usually get's 15-17. So that works for me, oh and the price has gone down to 6K now. I'm gonna call him tomorrow.

Oh, and speaking of prices lowering, I like rubing things in.

im gonna be honest, out of all of em, this is the most logical...everything else has a big downside, like big lift, welded rear, etc...

this has a small lift, sfa, and is in good condition...only worry is the fix, which is a risk i would take

I won't mention the this then: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...5018&rd=1&rd=1

Same thing as the other first gen, just a hell of a lot more rare. But I'm gonna pass on that one though. She was imported from CO, and still won't smog.

So I went and took a look at the blue truck today and I am going to pass. The door handles were removed and the solenoid in the driver door is busted. The interior is in bad shape, and the paint is already crackin...

Yeah, the 86 did look nice. I think I am gonna try to get a more stock truck though. I know me, and if I have a more stock truck, I'll be a lot less likely to dump $$ into it. But if she's already built, I'm gonna keep on building. I guess I have some sort of disorder.

yes and no....... a stock rig, you'll go wheelin a couple times, realize its a blast, then want to go further, and the build up starts...... or you buy a slightly modified rig and then you wont have to put as much into it.... just playin devils advocate..

She'll be my DD, and I want to do some minor wheelin. Fire roads, light mud, and maybe some light rocks, like similar to what's around Loon lake. I'll be working in the Sierra's all summer, Soda Springs to be speciffic.

I really like this: I'm not too sure about the lockers though. Maybe swap the rear for a LSD.

That 1st gen truck is nice. I would get that. Sucks about the emissions though. Makes me glad I don't have that where I live. But I have rust that you don't have
