Toyo OPEN Country M/T's

Hey there,
I'm running a 91 toyota pick up V6 3.0L with 4.56(for now). I got a 4 inch lift and 33/12.5/15 Tsl swampers for now and I'm wanting to pick up another set of tires for a majority of driving i do around town. Any of you ran the Open Country M/T's with this set up, or any set up for that. And anything else you have to say about them. Better or worse tire then the BFG M/T? Keep in mind this tire is more for road use and going camping down dirt roads as I got my swampers for when i go into the bush!

if you will be on the road most of the time you will want to go with BFG All Terrains.

Hmmmmm.... daily use (on asphalt i assume), with a set of swampers for when you go off the asphalt. Whats wrong with a good set of Dueler H/Ts? The noise difference will blow your mind.

To actually answer your question though: no experience with Toyos. I have the BFG A/Ts which work fine for my daily driving (no spare sets of tires for me..)

my brother is running 35x13.5 toyo open MTs.... so far hes liked them, they seem to have worn nicely...

Toyo MT's are an awfully expensive and HEAVY tire to use for DD'ing.

I would look at an AT - like the BFG, or the Toyo (Nitto TerraGrappler is the same, and usually cheaper)

I used Toyo open country ATs on my lifted explorer for two years and then transferred them to my wife's rodeo. She ran them for over a year, and when we sold hers, they still looked/rode perfect. I would buy them again over any AT tire out there, hands down. And that's having run a set of BFG ATs on our other explorer.
In any event, I agree with whoever said it above, get some ATs, and pick up a set of used MTs and cheep steelies for rims as a second set for when you go out and get hard core.

I've run BFG AT's on my Nissan and can't say enough good things about those tire in all conditions except mud. I have the Toyo Open Country AT's on my Isuzu Trooper and they are much quieter than the BFG's but are a very good tire. I would consider the Toyo MT's as a good tire........I did not know the NITTOs were cheaper. I thought they were more expensive.

my cheap Baja A/t's are really great tires too, not too expensive for dd use.
they dont do too bad in mud either!

easy solution. go on craigslist and find some cheap ($50) spare toyota or chevy rims and put the MTs on the spare set or whatever. then keep some normal street tires on the others and swap wheels when u hit the trails and not just dding. that what i would do

if ur rly going to use them for mostly dding just get something small and chill. u dont need mt's to drive around on road. yea u may look cool, but hey, wait till someone tells u that u need bigger tires, then challenge them to an offroad adventure. thats when u swap. hehehe.

My buddy has been running his Toyo m/t's all winter and now in to the dry on and off road. He loves them. He gets stuck 99.9% more then i do with swampers but on road his truck drives like stock(or as close to stock as it can with a 6inch lift). They seem to wear pretty fast tho. He had baja claws before that and said they suck.

Its a tough call. I loved my dualer a/ts on the street and light trail.BFG a/t's wore nice in dry conditions but snow they were the suck!

unless im 100% blind which im reading this just fine lol i cant not find toyo m/t in a 15 inch wheel anywhere. Do they make those tires for anything less than a 16 inch wheel. If so somebody let me know pm me or just write it in this tread. im not trying to steal this thread but im wondering if deSHUTTERS 91 p/u has 15s or 16 inch wheels. as far as your question I personally never ran them but have searched and found that most people prefer bfg over open country just because there a little less aggressive and dont wear as fast when used as daily driving.

I haven't used any of the Toyo's; but I have run some BFG AT's, and I'm using the Nitto Terra Grapplers now. I love the Nitto's on the road. I haven't had them off-road as much as when I had the BFG's (I kept breaking the seal on my passenger side, front BFG). I'm also using 17" rims now as opposed to the 15" I was using with the BFG's. I'm sure the rim size helps with the ride as well. I would definately suggest the Nitto's over the BFG's for mostly on road driving. The Toyo AT's look to be the same design as the Nitto Terra's. I would imagine that they should drive and ride alike. I like the price on the Nitto's better too though!
