Tire balance problems!!!

Every time I take my runner to get the tires balanced....I have to
take it back and watch the shops every move. They have to be
perfect or I make another trip back. They (discount tire in
Houston) always say it was close....but on these 2nd gen runners
it has to be perfect or you feel it at 60mpg.

Anyone else had this.....?

Hey......as luck would have it, I was just reading about this problem, and found a GREAT website that goes into detail about why this problem exists, and how to fix it for good. Go check it out...

your best bet is to get your local dealership to do it. i know it's more expensive but they'll do it right. unless you know a shop that can balance tires lug centric.

bbarggren hit it on the nose. you can go to www.gsp9700.com to get locations that have the GSP9700 near you.

If it helps any, we all seem to have this problem.

Same problem when I bought tires at Sam's (never again). Toyota dealer made them right though.

Tire balance has been a constant battle for me. Once I had a set that ran pretty well. Then I (like the moron I am) wanted to try something different. Ever since I traded in that set, I haven't found anything that works that well. (I think it's punishment for not sticking with what I had)

I'm using Equal now but my tires are retreads and there's only so good they can get. Equal's more expensive than I thought it'd be, but it helps.

It's tough not to have weights pulled off the rims on trails. That's one way to frequently go out of balance.

Another thought

I thought I was having trouble getting my tires balanced. Discount has the Hunter machine too.

Turns out it was my brakes causing the shaking (warped rotors/ drums).

hey, where in houston is the discount tire. I have had the same problem. I'm not sure if it is just my tires or if it is them. I have all-terains, and they may be too difficult to balance correctly. The discout tire i'm talking about is off of 1960.

I have my tires on the runner balanced on the vehicle with a spin motor. If theres a high spot in the tire, they will cut it off and true the tire. For about 40 to 50 thousand miles of my michelin ltx at tires life, they ran with NO weight at all and was as smooth as glass all the way up to 90mph. Now that their past 50k, they need just a little square stickon.

David,
The Discount I took them to was on hwy 6 north in Coperfield.
I did take it back and they put them on that new machine. They
hadto break all the tires down and spin them on the rims. Then
they balanced them again. It seems to ride better now....but I
will have to get it on the frway to see. Why wouldn't they do this
when you first buy the tires? It is normally 10.00 per tire, but they
didn't argue when i complained a little. I do have almost 10k
miles on them......they could have done this from the get go!
