Push start stove or match start stove??
That is the question. Looking at propane stoves, got my eye on a Coleman Grill Stove. 2 options, ones a push start, the other, matches.
I see the Instastart one being nice to have, not relying on using matches that you might have forgotten or they have gotten wet and won't light. I've had times in the past where it was a challenge to get the match lit due to windy weather. Both being seen as a positive for the push button. On the other hand, how durable is the Instastart system? If the button breaks or something with it doesn't work, are you SOL or can you still achieve ignition with a match? Having to rely on a match as backup though almost seems to make having the system a mute point and saves 20.00 in the end. Any thoughts or opinions? Gonna pick one of the two up tomorrow and have it ready for boat races on Sunday. Gonna do some bacon and eggs with pancakes for breakfast and then grill some burgers and dogs in the afternoon on the river shore. Then it'll be broken in for camping ![]()

Go for matchless.
I have it on my camping propane stove, and also a propane lantern. The clickers are very durable. If it ever did break, you can always use one of these. http://www.buzzillions.com/dz_296424...hter_revie ws That type of lighter takes butane, but there are also ones that are just a sparker. I own two very old ones, and when you push the button on them, they do the same thing the stove does, it makes a spark. In fact this is the same one I have. http://www.theoutdoorworld.com/products2.cfm?id=1151 I have a red one too that is just a sparker, have had it for around 25 years. They are kind of cool since you never have to fill them up with butane.

Did you decide on one yet?
Mine is still working perfectly after all these years, as I tested it out this past weekend for my upcoming trip. Never had a built in clicker go bad on me.

My stove is old enough that there was no built in starter, but have had them on BBQs before. They work great but have had the ones on BBQs fail on me. You can still light the stove with anything. What I do on mine is just keep an old BBQ lighter in with the stove (it fits inside the case). Lighter is out of fuel but still sparks fine, so just stick the tip of the long lighter in by the burner, turn on the fuel and click the lighter and it is going.

Go push start. That way, you have something that will light in the wind. And when the clicker wears out eventually, then you simply have a match light stove!
Btw yes i realize this is an old thread. Thought I would throw in my $.02 tho.

I went ahead and got the match start. Tested it out in the wind, started with no problemo!

my push start coleman does not work. For some reason, the igniters do not through a spark at the top of the wire. Perhaps its shortingon something. But the beauty part is that it is also a match start. ha.

Yep, definitely go with the sparker. You can always match light if it fails.
