the place that has it by me sells 20 gauge (about .032) in 4x8 sheets for under $50. problem is i need a 4x10

rb: thanks, i'll call them up later

magn: a 4x10 sheet of 6061 is $100, but i can pick it up locally from baltimore. even with a 10% and 5% discount, it's over $180. but it might be worth it to get the full 4x10 sheets i need. i'll keep looking around, too

just looked at it again, but with 5052 instead. it's a bit cheaper, about the same as if i bought 3 of the 4x8 sheets (which is what i would need to do anyway). looks like the way to go

I think 5052 is probably what you'd want to use anyways.

- maybe wire it
and whenever:
- install the a/c
- mount the battery
- fix the abs end caps

ian you can get smaller pieces and use sekaflex to glu it together and to the frame just rough up surfaces http://tweetys.com/sikaflexsealantco...FYfe4AodwWP3pw it is not cheap but stays fexable and holds great all the new buses you see this is what holds side panels on

Does that mean super glue and duck tape would work too?

Haha J/K. Looking forward to seeing you roll this down to RC in a month.

yeah, i know about all that stuff. personally, i like the "white" stuff, as i've used it before. i'll probably use that on the corners. i still need to get this roof done before then

super glue and duct tape it is! actually, i was thinking of jb-welding the sheets to the frame as to avoid burning through .030 aluminum. i might have to add some sort of fasteners

this weekend i should have a plan of the final frame design. i have a rough idea, but want to make sure it works. the top and sides are easy. 90 degree angles all the way. the front and back are sloped at about 20 degrees, which means some odd cuts and joints. so we'll see...

I've heard fiberglass and bondo works well too. lol. And no you can't have any of the aluminum on my bed. nor any of my stainless steel fasteners on it. lol.

dang! i was gonna sneak over to your place (in 4.5 hours), silently disassemble your truck's bed, then sneak back 4.5 hours home... hehehe

i would like to have done fiberglass, if it weren't so expensive and time consuming. to do the entire area like that would cost about twice as much, and take twice as long to finish. i don't know how good it would look, either.

I am going to assume here since your running that window AC on it, that it has provisions for a 11o outlet? If so what amperage? I can bring my 4 gallon compressor to RC as well. Mine is a little touchy and it doesn't like an extension cord and when we tired to plug it in at Jerry's it didn't want to run off his outlet in his garage. Not sure if there was anything wrong with his or what amperage the outlet was but.........

i don't have any provisions for the a/c yet. i'm assuming there's no hook-ups at rc, as i don't want to run that thing off of battery. if there's at least a 110 outlet, i'll gladly pay a bit extra for the use of my a/c . it's not mounted yet, but i could rig something up...

ok, here's my revised design. it uses a hair under 62 feet, which is great, because i have 63 feet already. all i would need is the sheet/s and welds. the bottom/side supports would be connected at the bottom by existing hardware (also aluminum) and all previous screw holes filled. i might have to get creative with the awning, though, but i think i can make it work

the "ribs" are not evenly spaced in order to make way for the door

Generator on that thing, Ian? I'm sure you mentioned all this... just can't remember, lol. Lot of that lately, ... just wait till 20 years from now, hahaha.

That plan looks good, btw.

if i did a gen, it'd have to be a small, quiet one, as to not wake the neighbors. i use a/c mainly at night and there are almost always "quiet hours" at every park

Being the electrical genius you are, you could rig something up with the generator to automatically turn on and off to charge the battery(s) this way it's not on full time.
