Dutch Ovens

I got a 12" dutch oven a few years ago and have used it a few times. I was wondering how many people actually use them hunting/camping. I am going for 4 days in the middle of April and would like to try some new crowd pleasers. There is nothing like wheeling or fishing all day just to come back to camp and have a huge roast ready to eat with soughdough biscuits to go with it. Anyhow lets here your success stories.

Yeah they come out soft and fluffy about the size of your fist with a little butter and honey. Hard to beat.

Check out www.firepies.com. If you bounce around on there enough you will find all kinds of recipes. One is garbage can stew, I love it, but its not for everyone. It is also the best thing to cook a cobbler in! We just got in from a camping trip, I think I gained five pounds.

Dutch oven huh?

I thought that was when you pulled the sheets over your wifes head and farted in bed. Must be a NC thing.

Sorry for the post.

I like the idea of a slow cooked meal that you just make right after breakfast, and forget about it, until you come back, and eat it.

I am heading down to Cabelas or ? to get one of those dutch oven tables, I have tried to cook on the ground but being 6'3" you get tired of squating after awhile. Let you know how it turns out.

Those tables do look nice.
They come with cheap plastic screws from reading the reviews, so get ready to buy better ones.

I looked at a couple of stores today and dag namit Corey I was going to copy and paste a picture of one to show everybody and you beat me to it. You must have read the reviews on the Cabela's website. I found one that is a bit beafer at Tri-state outfitters. Sorry no quick on the draw pictures like Corey. I am looking for one with higher sides than the one shown above. So far no luck yet.
I am trying out a cobler this weekend and will take pics of the goods.

Oh yea, you know what its all about. In scouts we used to get a box of cake mix and a can of peaches and it made the best cobbler! especially when snow camping

We cooked different when snow camping, since we snowshoed in 3 miles. Everyone dug snow caves, and we stayed a couple days. LOVED it!!!!

I have heard about burying them before but never tried it. Do you just guess when everything is done??
