Mine is a point-and-shoot, but it has extensive manual options. For these kinds of photos, I put it in "Tv" which allows you to set the shutter speed (up to 15 secs!) and then it adjusts everything else based on that.
Wow. What point and shoot do you have to get 15sec out of it?!

Canon Powershot A610, Molly has the A620.

Absolutely amazing cameras considering their size and price.

I love how the long exposures really saturate the colors

Yes, yes it really does.. And the light spectrum from a full moon is so incredible.

Yeah, I've got a couple friends who carry a PowerShot as a backup camera. They seem really decent for their price.

I love this thread - can't believe I hadn't posted these already...

From a trip to Budapest Hungary.

St. Steven's Basillica

Matyas' Cathedral

The Palace (this was the view from my hotel the last night)

The Danube River, Chain Bridge, with Matyas' Cathedral in the background

Some comparisons of "traditional" and long exposure photography:
Long exposure, no flash

Flash, traditional

You can get telephoto, wide angle, and macro lenses for them too. Really adds to their versatility http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/A620A610.html Have a look!

I *LOVE* that first firework shot! NICE!

What aperture, shutter speed, film speed? I've tried my hand at fireworks with not as much luck/skill as that!
