GoPro HD camera

This new camera coming out could be used for mountain biking, racing, off roading, anything.

I have looked at the original GoPro Herowide camera, but I read it had issues with sound.

They are working on a new camera after listening to mountain bikers feedback.

Check out this video at YouTube.
I will not embed it here, as you need to watch it in HD format and full screen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMwczh0tvwI

GoPro is a member over at www.mtbr.com and here is a thread on the new cam.
http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=539939
He posts some info in there on the new upcoming camera.

I read some more info on it after FROADER over at Expedition Portals forum posted some info in one of my threads over there.
http://helmetcameracentral.com/2009/...-cam-announce/
Here are the full video specs with bitrates, please note bitrates may change in final production version:

* 1080P 1980×1080 30 fps @12 Mbps
* 960P 1280×960, 30 fps @ 10 Mbps
* 720P 1280×720, 30 fps @ 7.5 Mbps
* 720P 1280×720, 60 fps @ 15 Mbps
The video above was shot at the 960P setting at 30 FPS, it can make even a better video at the full 1080P setting, but man, the 960 looks incredible.

I will be wearing this on my helmet to record some future biking vids, and will look into using it for off roading, camping, ect too.

Here is their original one.

And the helmet camera.

And a review of the new upcoming HD camera.

Any idea on a more specific release time? I'm going to start saving my pennies for sure! Will be sweet for my skydiving videos.

I also ordered a 32 GB card for the camera, it will be here Tuesday, a few weeks ahead of the camera.

Besides this camera doing duty as a helmet cam, they do have kits to mount to your rig so you can record your off roading.
http://www.goprocamera.com/index.php...2&productid=30
You will want to check out some of the vids.
http://www.goprocamera.com/hdheropreview/
The bike one shows them building trails, while the mountain bike one is all down hill at Whistler I think.
Totally insane near the end of the video where the guy is just flying fast on narrow rutted singletrack with trees on both sides.

How many are thinking of getting this new HD camera?
Besides using mine for mountain biking, I will get use from it camping and wheeling too.

Corey, that's the one I've been waiting for. Great possibilities for indie producers. This should do the job until 3D becomes workable next year.

Should be shipping in just a few weeks.
I need to check with my local ski resort (Crystal Mountain) and see if they are going to get back into taking bikes up the ski lifts during the summer like they did a long time ago when I had my old bike.

Lot of good trails up there to ride back down to the base, and it would be fun to shoot some vids of this old man laughing/screaming my head off as I bomb down the single track and wider stuff up there.

Long long ago (early 90s) member mytruck, his wife, and I did that up there.
They put our bikes on the chair lifts while we road up in a separate one.

Sounds exciting! We have Ski Bowl that allows DHers.

DH is the scariest part of MTB for me. These bikes want to instantly accelerate to ridiculous speeds. Disc brakes are the best MTB invention ever. Although my pads must be wearing since the lever travel is about double since new and getting a little too close to the handlebar. Still a firm lever but low. I tried the adjustment procedure with the 2mm hex but nothing changed much and I don't want to fubar them too.

Bob, was that an adjustment of the pad, or the lever?
I have not messed with mine yet, not enough miles.
But I think my levers are adjustable.
I need to read up on them more.

On a sidenote, I am now ordering long sleeve bike shirts, and will be looking into some knickers perhaps for colder weather.

Yes, I remember when we hit Crystal long ago we picked up speed really fast.
We went by an abandoned mineshaft too, pretty cool.

It would be perfect for that.
The old camera had lots of wind noise, not so with this new one.

Anyone know of a good converter that will convert the MP4 (H.264 compression) over to an AVI or an MPEG file?
These MP4s will simply not import into Windows Move Maker.

I have Nero 8 on my PC, maybe it does, I will have to look into it.
I also might get one of those Vimeo accounts, as the vids uploaded to them look better than YouTube most of the time.

Corey, adjustment is part of the lever.

Here's some freeware that might help. I use Sony video software that works.

I have good DVD software to back up my DVDs that I buy.

Bob, Windsor, thanks for the links.

My 32 GB card came today, I hope they ship the camera by the last week like they said it will be.
I know a lot are waiting on this to ship.

Yes, I ordered directly from the site.
I may have to drop them a line about the $30 difference.
Usually it is cheaper right from the warehouse.

Another good review I just ran across.
This new cam ships next week

http://gearjunkie.com/gopro-hd-helmet-hero

Lots more info from a search.
http://www.google.com/search?q=HD+He...ient=firefox-a

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzFDo...ayer_embedded#

I always thought it would be best to shoot in the highest resolution, but I see the 960 is better as it puts more of the vertical image in the movie allowing your handlebars and bike to get in the scene too.
http://www.actioncamerasblog.com/gop...d-helmet-hero/
1080p — “True HD” video at 30 frames per second – to put it in perspective, 1080p 30 frames per second is the equivalent of shooting 30 2-megapixel photos per second. Each video still is a 2-megapixel photo, in essence. A first in wearable camera technology, available only from GoPro.

960p — “Maximum Wide Angle” video at 30 frames per second – 960p offers 25% more vertical viewing area than other resolutions. This means you can see your knees and skis on the slopes, and your handlebars and bike frame beneath you when charging the singletrack. Yet another first in wearable cameras, only from GoPro.

720p – “Slow-motion Cinema” is possible thanks to the HD Helmet HERO’s incredibly smooth 60 frames per second 720p video. Again, a first in wearable camera technology, only from GoPro.
