Thumbs down Setting the record straight...

Mods please put this in the Drama llama lounge as it is where it belongs...

This is an ex-canadian who has had enough of some americans thinking bad things ABOUT canadians and their pronunciations.

Now, i am starting this thread because i recently finished reading the "Post Your Milage" thread and got slightly unhappy.
When i drove through the states in Febuary 07 i was teased unmercifully thanks to South Park. ONLY THE FRENCH SAY ABOOT. EVERYOTHER CANADIAN SAYS ABOUT!
When we say eh! it is like americans saying hey, or whatsup or equivilant. NOT 1 CANADIAN SAYS EH FOR EVERYOTHER WORD.
When we had some american catholic medical team from Cincinnati i still got bugged by the way i pronounce ROOF since i didnt say roof like a dog. same goes with well over 50 words that are pronounced differently. decal, deecal is another one.

I am ex-Canadian, so is my vehicle. i convert my km's over with the internet because it makes some americans get all confused when i use kms per 100kms rather than miles per gallon.
While talking to my friend who owns a 08 Hilux with 3.0L V6 Turbo diesel intercooled, he only gets 25MPG on highway. So unless it is an old diesel, Diesel's are not better. SUV's and Trucks are not ment for high fuel economy.

One thing and the only thing that made me slightly dislike America is that some locals in Washington went on live TV and said that Canada is a bad country because we did not send out troops over to raid Iraq for oil. Canada is a peacekeeper not a freedom taker like USA. Dont get me wrong, i loved driving through the states. some incredibly nice people. but in some locations i got insulted alot all thanks to the south park episode when they go to QUEBEC and the FRENCH say aboot. they say that word because they do not naturally speak english. it is a bad pronuncian.

Now that i have cleared the air, let the debating begin.

P.S. STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT GAS PRICES. IT HAS REACHED AND PASSED $10 A GALLON HERE IN BELIZE.

But i want everyone to know. i dont mind people insulting me, im sure i'll get alot now. but when it happens every week, it gets rather depressing to be generlised with French who live in Canada.

And i still want everyone to know i like americans, i dont dislike many, George Bush is the worst of them all.

Freakin' 'nucks.

I know what you mean.

I have heard them make the stereotypical jokes about maple syrup, about, etc.
I have an accent, and I'm from Canada. I just sound out the word to them, and tell them I'm saying it correctly, if they have a problem it's their issue, not mine.

Also, Canada is in Afghanistan, have been from the start.
We are also in Iraq, which is not widely known. From what I hear (As per Global News), the troops that are there are training on their new Boeing CC-117's.

Just remember that the country you hail from is great, and is known around the world as a great country that helps when they can, defends those who can't, and sends aid to those in need.
Don't let it get under your skin because you say something differently.

Aussi's talk with a funny accent, and they probably have one of the best in the world.

Don't sweet it. America is Hated around the World Due to there politics, policing, and general thought that might makes right. (I'm in Global Support and talk to people from all over the world)

I personally have nothing against Americans Just do not believe in there world politics

Canadian's are loved around the world and welcomed with open arms.

Canadians are thought to be polite and honest
American's are thought be rude and arrogant

Canadians are Peace keepers
Americans are war starters

Canadians Can Drink
Americans Drink water downed beer

Canadians have funny accents
Americans have funny accents (depending where they come from NY, SC)

And when push comes to shove either of us would come to the aid of the other, and usually have each others backs

War in Iraq, We don't support the war, But our troops are there. our medical tents are there, our mobile water treatment platoons are there. All aiding the American Troops.

Now Group Hug.

ha! Im not your buddy, friend!

But as for the southpark rant on us Canucks, its hilarious since they just use us as way to slam others since it doesnt make that much sense to bash us about really anything.. The last southpark with the Canada on strike is a slam at the writers guild strike,,,why do you think the initials for the Canadian bureau are WGA??
As for those that slam Canadians with malice, who cares? If people choose to be arrogant and ignorant, let them be. They typically may the ones that maybe have a GED, adorn a confederate flag, and call their sister ...wife.
You've been out of the country too long if you are making threads like this.

What's canada?

Since I'm sure Canadians make fun of Americans, I don't see whats wrong with us making fun of you, nor was I aware that there was any malicious and mean spirited insulting going on on YT.

But, to respect your wishes, and keep the drama down, I will no longer crack jokes about Canadians.

It really is too bad that we can't get along here. Everyones got fights going on these days, whether its politics or nationality, or truck. Oh well.

Apologies if I offended anyone before.

Doesn't something like 90% of the Canadian population live within 50 miles of the US border?

Canada is just America Jr. but just doesn't believe in blindly invading countries and forcing our freedoms on them.

I've actually been called Canadian by some blind Republicans since I don't support the war if that's what you want to call it.

No, we're not.
If that were the case, we would have formed one large country. There are many more things that separate us from the US then a war.
Alternatively, we do have many similarities.

We have many that are similar to China, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Scotland, Ireland, and France too.

Also, we don't stay along the border because of the temperature, people have proved that the north is sustainable.
The border is densely populated because we share many trade opportunities with other countries. It's not just the border with the USA that is populated, it's along the main waterways as well.
And the reason is quite simple, it's much cheaper to ship from these locations because they are accessible to the outside world.

Are you serious???

I've been laughing my a$$ off reading all this "Canadians With Attitude" crap. If the US wanted all the barren wasteland to the north of what is now the border, We'd have taken it. So you like Canada? You're welcome.

I like Canada. I've never been there, but you guys are kind enough to let us build a road connecting the Lower 48 to Alaska. And don't think that just because you can make living in the far north sustainable, that you should. I could live in Greenland, and be self sufficient, but who would want to live there? Come on, you Canadians, don't get your selves all worked up. Pick on someone your own size(Population, not landmass).....someone like Austrailia.

Most people from the US don't make fun of Canadians, since we've already tired ourselves out from that long long ago, and the Canadian jokes aren't that funny anymore. And the simple fact that we outnumber you 10 to 1. So for every Canadian that says something bad aboot the USA, there are 10 of us.

Now I hope I haven't got any more of your panties in a bunch, since the OP pretty much asked for it, even though he is in Belize, and yes, I will ressurect old "Gas Prices Suck" threads just to piss you off.

That being said, I'm just messing with you guys up there in the Great White North. If you come down to the States, we'll have us a dandy, eh.

PS, where do you guys live in the summer time when your igloos melt?

I am from Texas, grew up here, on a farm. I know I talk funny, every time I go to New Mexico or Arizona, or even in my home state down in Dallas to visit my friends the waitress or bartender allways stop and ask me to say something. It doesnt bother me anymore, I just stay proud of my roots. The only thing that gets to me is everyone that think all Americans fall into some catagory of wanting to take over the world. Personally, I dont want Iraq, my son has enough sand in his sandbox. I do want to see Osama dragged out of his goat-crap infested cave and force fed camel urine while we soak his head towel with some of that high priced gas while we get ready to light his last smoke.

When i posted this it was a simple way for Canadians and Americans to come and steam about one another rather than in the tech threads. I got sick of certain people treating Canadians different because we dont say roof the same way. I absolutly loved driving through the states last year and would do it again. but at some of the hotels i stayed at or food joints i went to i was treated like i was dumber than americans when the education is actually proven to be better in Alberta! When i was in Arizona 5 out of 20ish people i spoke to did not even know where Canada was! But this is a thread to let Americans take out their frustration on Canadians and vise versa rather than post South Park slander in 4x4 tech threads.

But im loving these discusions. To see what fellow Canadians think about our neighbours.
