We'll just have to wait and see on both accounts. Not much we can really do about Phelp's or our current President. . .

lol, i think his apology is funny actually. He's using a ROOR bong. Anyone that smokes knows those bongs will run you about 500 bucks in the hole (i own one myself) and is definitely not a piece for a first time smoker. Not to mention he knew exactly how to use it which shows this wasn't his first time smoking weed and probably not his last time either. To be honest i'm glad hes doing it but that's because i'm also a fellow marijuana enthusiast so my opinion is a little biased. I just wish he wouldn't have apologized.

You would have never heard a word about it if it was alcohol.

He won't. At least not in his first term. He's repeatedly said that he does not support the legalization of marijuana. I wouldn't expect any action until a second term (if he gets it) where he's not taking any risks.

I disagree. Many public figures are in the news every day for their consumption of alcohol. Besides that, Marijuana is illegal. Whether or not you think it should be is besides the point, so lets not use that arguement. Point and case is, he broke the law. Same thing applies for people who drink and drive. Not too long ago Pacman jones was arrested on DUI charges, so you cannot tell me there are no news stories for alcohol.

You seem to always compare alcohol use and marijuana use. While drinking alcohol is not illegal, drinking in excess IS illegal, as well is drinking in driving. The long and short of it is that breaking the law IS ILLEGAL.

For the record, here are a few news stories of people arrested for DUI:

He wasn't in the news for drinking, he was in the news for drinking & driving and getting caught in the process. That was a bad decision led on by a substance that promotes bad judgment.

Marijuana is just not a big deal in most peoples eyes. At least here in Cali if you stand up and say "i smoke weed" half the room will reply with a "who cares? sit back down". I get that he's supposed to be a role model and all, but what he does in the privacy of his own home/a friends home isn't anyone's business and shouldn't effect his professional life.

The media is the criminal here, not Michael Phelps.

We have already discussed Marijuanas affects on judgement, so i wont get into that one again.

The law is pretty cut and dry. The use of marijuana is illegal. This is a fact you cannot dispute. Again, whether is should or should not be legal is not rellevant to this discussion. FACT; he broke the law. Plain and simple.

The media is part of the problem, you and I agree on that. If not for the media, there wouldn't be a problem here, only because no one would know about it. But, fact of the matter is, the Media will always be there, and this sort of thing will always make the news storys. It doesn't make it any more legal. Someone in the public eye, who is public role model, should be expected to act in a professional and distinguished manner at all times.

Alright, well we'll leave it with that one agreement.

I just feel that people should be reasonable is all.

..he'd make one hell of a pro-marijuana spokesman though. I smell future sponsorships.

Live how you want. I could care less.

But if you endanger me or anybody else, is when i start to have a problem with how people make choices.

Like i said, we are not talking about something that SHOULD or SHOULD NOT be legalized. That has nothing to do with this situation. Fact is, it is CURRENTLY Illegal. The debate on should or shouldn't be legal would rage on for days here.

"While drinking alcohol is not illegal, drinking in excess IS illegal"

Is that really illegal?

Denver has legalized possesion of an ounce or less of Pot by an adult but it is governed by state law that will slap you with a whopping $100 fine.

Phelps apologized and he'll be fine with most of his sponsors and fans alike.

Is smoking pot Illegal in that state?

Poll by Fox Sport of 418,000 people say

21%--Cant Believe it--i am hurt

79%--Who cares

That officially qualifies for jury nolification--Not guilty

And as typical--everybody is worried about the money he has lost to sponsors--Who CARES--it was his money to lose

He could ned up being one of the most prolific persons of this century for peoples individual rights

Granted it was his money to lose and it was his choice but a person needs to consider the impact of their actions. A lot of people including kids look up to him and consider him a role model and a hero. Your poll percentages just shows how the american society is becoming numb to our role models being stupid at times.

Yeah,to be honest this doesn't hurt his reputation at all with me. In fact a sponsor dropping him would be stupid because he just gained the millions of marijuana activists as fans. Put his face on a box of chicken in a biskit crackers and i'll buy that in a second. lol

I myself respect him even more knowing he smokes pot and is still very successful in life. He's set an example and broke us free of the stereotypical pothead image.

I am glad that millions of pot smokers can now rally and watch him swim in the Olympics. Also, that you feel freed from your "pot head" image. I hope you can inhale a little easier tonight. His actions are seen and judged my millions. Little kids want to grow up to be him. I feel that what he does is his business but he should consider the impact upon his image and the influence that he carries.
