So I got myself LifeFlighted to the hospital...

Friday, One of my friends was over. We went and picked up a pizza. For some reason, we went outside, and I climbed on the back of his F150. I fell off, apparently planting my face into the ground first, and layed there as he paniced to call 911. I lost conciousness.

Apparently the ambulance only had me for a few minutes, since the helicopter couldnt get into my neighborhood safely. It did seem like forever. The neckbrace they put on me was cutting into my chest, and I was bitching as much as I could. I continued to slip in and out of conciousness on the Ambulance, and Helicopter.

After 40 or so x-rays, some cat scans, and some MRIs, we found out nothing was broken. The doctors said, due to the way I hit the ground, I shouldve broken my neck, and at least a cheek bone. W.e. Im not complaining. My face is one huge scab.

I was released at 2PM yesterday. I cant work for a week. I probably gunna stay home from school for a few days. WooWoo?

similar thing happened to my friend right in front of all our eyes during spring break at my parents coast house... he fell off the second story balcony and landed face first on the tile floors... 15 feet of freefall... He was life flighted to Corpus Christi and it turned out he broke both cheek bones, shattered jaw, nose, wrist and collarbone... he was floating in and out of consiousness... the lifeflight heli landed on my front yard... we honestly thought he was dead... what an experience...

yeah thats a lot of money for them to tell you, you are ok.

of course 75k would be a small price to pay if they saved your life.

how is that gonna work anyway? will insurance pay for it or what?

my father told me in MD, the medivac is a free ride. I found that hard to believe, does this vary state to state? Or is he full of crap?

LifeFlight in MD is the State Police, they use the same helicopter, same people on the air crews, some of the cops just happen to be paramedics. Everywhere else, they are private services, so I can see how in MD it would be free, you pay taxes for it in the first place after all. I have got to work on the the bird a few times, a lot of waiting, but some serious trauma when the call comes in!

Well sort of... Medi-Vac consist of 2 pilots (troppers that are medic trained) and at least 1 flight trauma nurse (2 if it is bad). And it is not free, my sister had a 10K bill 8 years ago, and my wife says it is at least 15k now (she works in the ER of a trauma hospital). So no it is not free, basically you are paying for the cost of starting up the chopper (maintenance is expensive on those things). But at least you are getting to fly to the best trauma centers there is.

Glad to hear your ok Gangus.

I'm waiting for the day when health insurance will go the way of auto insurance, punishing unhealthy habits and plain stupidity. It's only a matter of time.

they were gunna air lift me to the hospital when i cut my spleen open in 2 spots from a mountain biking accident, they couldnt find a place to land it so i had to be strapped on a board and carried for about a mile on a really rocky single track, and than they put me in the back of a rangers truck and drove down the hill to an awaiting ambulance...fun stuff!

I *THINK* my friend took a pic of me in the neckbrace laying on the board in the ER. Before they cleaned me up.

Pics now would be worthless.

Here is a release form. Ill scan bills as they come in.

ok, full story:

Alchemist came over.
We wento to go get pizza, and pick up my 2 year old sister.
Come back to my house.
I ate a piece of pizza. Finished it, randomly decided to go outside.
I got on my sister's bike, and randomly rode around.
I randomly put the bike on the back of Alchemist's truck.
Alchemist, not thinking I was gunna really ride off, strted walking inside.
*THUD*
Alchemist turns around, and Im unconcious on the ground, in a pool of blood. (Not sure where hte blood came from, none of the cuts were that big...adn the rest were just scrapes)
Ambu comes, takes me for a 5 minute ride to a nearby church, where Im picked up by the Heli...
