I'm just a girl...

...with a '03 Limited V6 4x4/NAV, which I paid cash for two weeks ago, and I LOVE it. This is my first post (I'm just a tad bit nervous), and I'm probably gonna take some ribbing for the fact that my ride's totally stock, but so be it...just be gentle?

There are really only two areas which leave something to be desired: the bass could have a bit more bottom to it, and I want a six-disc changer.

Because of the NAV (which has already proved indispensable), I'm limited to playing one CD at a time and its slot is accessed by flipping the NAV screen down--kinda cumbersome, and just how many flips will that screen take? In the owner's manual, there's a section that details operation of a disc changer mounted in the glove box...still possible for my rig?

Secondly, though I don't want the guy's chest in the car next to me vibing from my bass booms, I did want a little more bass in my system.

Anybody got any ideas for me?

Thanks in advance,
Sis Crys

First off, Welcome!
Its nice to see there are some females out there that care about their truck. There arn't too many on this forum and the more the merrier . About your changer idea. You can ALWAYS add a changer. Whether or not its directly intagrated into your stereo is another story. I'll look around on the net, but I'm almost positive you can add one onto your existing system (ie no extra remotes etc.) About the bass. Thats pretty easy too. I would order an infiniti bass link or bazooka tube that has the amplifier built in and can be adjusted to your bass needs/wants. Let me look and see if i can get something on the changer.

There isn't anything on the crutchfiled site about changers other than the one that plays through your radio (but is still a direct wire connection). As for the bass link here is a link to one on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tegory=32 822

Your best bet is to head into a store like circuit city and ask them. They are pretty up to date and have all the info on who makes what for what automaker. I know panasonic used to make the stereos for Toyota, now who knows as JBL makes speakers and amps not anything else. They should also carry the Bass link. Go check it out, I'm sure you won't be dissappointed with the bass link. A coupble guys have it on here, and I have a buddy with one and he loves it.
Good luck!

Stock?
Not that big of a deal

Stick around here long enough and you'll find that stock will no longer be good enough

Welcome to the Forum. Be forwarned, you may get hit on. So, I would establish your marital status (if any), age, etc.

Dont be scared though, we all realize you are here with a common interest...Toyota's!

BTW: I am happily married, so I wasnt hinting at anything.

Welcome to YotaTech. Sounds like a nice ride you got there.

For added base think about a new head unit, an amp and a 8" sub like a bazooka tube or single small sub in an enclosed box.

CD changer

For a CD changer you could integrate the Toyota one into your audio system. I know there is one for the older ones. A quick peek at the back of your current radio would enlighten us. If there is a wiring harness not in use, it's likely that that one is for a CD changer. If there is no additional wiring harness, Pioneer makes these FM modulated CD changers: 6-disc or 12-disc. They play CD's and work like a miniature radio tower, only with a much smaller broadcasting radius. They are set to broadcast at a certain frequency (I think 87.something sounds familiar) and all you do is turn on the radio to that frequency and you get the music from your CD. Downside is there can be inteference. For more bass, you'd need to add an amplified subwoofer. You can go either the stealth route, hiding the amp and minimizing the space the subwofer box takes up, or the show route having everything on display. This would require a 4 guage wire (for a little boost) and RCA cords to your amplifier. You could do it all under $100. More bass = more money though, as with everything.

We'll need a little more info before answering: Age, weight and net worth.

Hey, don't worry about leaving your 'Runner stock. That's the way I like my cars and women.

Almost everyone with the new JBL is crying about it, including me. I though I read that some type of service campaign is out for an upgraded subwoofer amp warranty repair/replacement. It might come up on a search.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. You're the only one here with that particular combination. Congrats on the smart buy. BTW, what color did you get and what other options like the big wheels available in your region?

Another warm welcome to the forum. Everyone here will prove to be lots of help if you have questions about your truck.

It looks like you have already received some good suggestions for upgrading your stereo. No need to add to that wonderful wisdom.

Congratulations on your new truck. Is this the first Toyota that you have owned?

Welcome aboard! glad to hear you bought a 4runner and not something else!

Don't worry as most of the new 03 owners are still stock! me too actually! hehe

Here are some things to read up on since you have the v6.

http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9188

Also people with the JBL has been encountering problems with their audio (sound quality). Please refer to www.tundrasolutions.com as they have a more indepth thread on this topic.
http://216.110.167.77/forums/showthr...threadid=11487

the advice of changing the head unit won't apply to her as her head unit has the navigation system in there as well. So if she removes the radio, so does the navigation unit. As she as stated, she's used it (and has really assisted her! ) so this is out of the question.

Adding a cd changer should be relatively easy. You have 2 options:
1 -> pick up a FM modulated Cd changer and add it to your existing radio as I know you don't want to change that.
2 -> pick up a factory change (if available - not sure)

Adding more bass:
pick up a extra tube (sub) and install it and add a external amp to run the sub and you'll be thumping!

Upgrading speakers?

good luck and if ya have any other q's, feel free to post away. We're all here to help eachother out!

Lance

sistercrystin,

Have you considered upgrading your speakers and maybe the deck to the aftermarket one?

Upgrading your speakers will still leave the factory look, and you'll definitely get more base out Infinity, MB Quartz or Audiobahn. Adding aftermarket deck, which will play CDs, MP3s and much more for you will be just a plus.

The main reason you don't have so much base in the stock system is simply because Toyota decided to put 6"x9" speakers on the front (dont' even ask me why) and 5" in the back. JBL factory subwoofer kind of sucks too, to be honest.

As I have mentioned, upgrading speakers probably would be the first step towards a good sound. Especially since you already have everything prewired, it is just a matter of taking one speaker and putting in another. The difference will be almost night a day! And if you're brave enough, it's not that difficult to do at all yourself.

well first welcome to the board. But god guys calm down alittle its not like you all havent seen a girl before. I dont think ive ever seen a post like this get so much attention. sistercrystin you better watch out. to make your life easy i would get the factory cd changer (depending on its costs I should say). Go to the dealer you purchased the 4runner for and make them hook you up with it for cheap. If not factroy you will need to at the very least find a wiring harness for a toyota cd changer and then try to find an adapter to use a aftermarket cd changer.

For the sub, it all depends on how much bass you want, the amount of space you want to use, and your budget. I would get a small external amp and get a seperate subwoofer. Im not into the pre-powered and pre-assembled subwoofers. But it all depends on your needs. Answer those questions and then you will get some recommendations.

WHAT COLOR???????????????

Welcome to the forums! I'll leave it up to the others to give you advice on the sound system.

Be sure to get some pics of the new ride when you get a chance. Is that thing gonna go on any trails, or is it street only?
