when the criminal is in your car it locks the doors and small vials of nerve agent are opened and your a/c comes on and ruins his day...

or

a trick steering wheel that looks and feels real but doesn't engage with the column until you put a secret pin in to lock it...

same with brakes

no steer..no stop..no steal

I want the alarm I saw in Robocop. You try and steal the car and a flamethrower comes out from underneath the car and burns you alive. Oh wait that was my own idea, they just had one that electrocutes you.

Seat belt connects to the driveshaft. Engages after 15 seconds. One thief becomes two.

Would need to improve the stain resistance of my seat covers however.

Actually, that's been available in South Africa for about 10 years now. You are 35 times more likely to get car-jacked there than anywhere in the US.

A separate key to unlock the steering column. Hide it behind a panel.

A pneumatic rod positioned under the seat. Wired up to a kill switch. Theif tries to start the truck.. BAM they are anchored to your seat, for you to do what you please with them.

Just don't forget to flip the switch on them monday mornings!

While a booby trap would be nice, there are laws in the U.S. that would put you in prison for using them.
Put pro-gun stickers all over your truck. Then, take an assortment of guns and shoot up your truck a little.

Or, take a well sealed container and put some Lutefisk in it. Rig the container to open with the door. The smell of fresh Lutefisk is enough to send almost anyone running for their lives, let-a-lone rotting Lutefisk.

yes the flame thrower idea is a good one from south africa, a friend lived there fro six years and says they had seen many bmw's with this "MOD". A simple ignition kill switch under the dash is a proven and easy/reliable theft prevention. I think we might have to worry more about our cats (not the fuzzy kind), they seem to like those things.

This isn't really something that will keep people out of your car, but might keep them from stealing it. I heard it on Car-Talk on NPR. They said that many old time gas staion owners would swap the #1 plug wire with the coil wire at the distributor on cars they had to leave outside overnight. If a thief can get in it and tries to start it, it spits and sputters and bangs like it might start, but doesn't. Thief thinks it is just another broken down piece of junk and moves on.

This might not be a good method on later model computer controlled cars, but I'm sure it worked great back in the day.
