That is horrible. Having a vehicle stolen is bad no matter what, but after 20 years of ownership, that would kill me.

Fat guy rage mixed with general anger management issues usually works fine for me, supplemented with a bat I got from Gangus if necessary.

Thanks for all the nice comments, I called the police and they took a report over the phone. There was no reason for them to come out and look at an empty parking space.
The truck was kept in the garage for 21 yrs, but my work is in an industrial area of So Cal. There is no security in the area and plenty of human scum, so it was just a matter of time till someone took it. As for "Overhaulin", I wish............................. |

i know the feeling
I know the feeling. My 84 Hi-Lux 4x4 was stolen not too long after I got back from Korea. It was gone for a week before it was found on the side of the highway. All my tools were gone and those POS's put a hole in my gas tank. The only reason why they didn't get it to their chop/rape shop was because of how I had it rigged. After I got back from Korea I picked up my truck from my sister in SoCal. On my way up from Cali to Washington I had some fuel trouble. I rigged in an inline fuel pump to tempararily solve my prob. I was in a hurry so I wired the pump into a fuse block I had on the passenger side fenderwell. I didn't wire in a switch... only a fuse to start and stop the pump. If you didnt start the pump you could drive around town without fuel starvation probs. Once those POS's stole my rig and got on the highway they experienced what a 22R with a 38 DGAS carb experiences when she doesn't have enough fuel...(extereme jerking and a top speed of 40 miles per hour) I think they freaked out and pulled over. They took my tools and ghetto tape player. I'm assuming they wanted to come back for it so they used my own screwdriver and hammer and poked a hole in the tank. Well needless to say I got it back and have put a many more happy miles on it. A word to the wise.... ALL mid to early 80's Toyota pickups, 4 runners and some passenger cars suffer from a poorly designed ignition lock cylinder. Anyone with a wore out key could start my truck. Make sure and replace your lock cylinder. You can also add your own anti-theft switch. It's a wise and cheap investment. Oh btw your 4-runner was and hopefully is still beautiful!! Hope it comes back to you. I'm pulling for you bro

I also would be anger and disappointed if ANY vehicle that I bought new and had owned for 20 was stolen or even wrecked. You had alot of miles on it but it was garaged and being CA, wasn't it rust free? I guess that's why they are getting stolen out there and not In the Rustbelt.
Truely sorry to hear.

Update
Well its been over 3 weeks and still nothing.
I am spending a lot of time on Autotrader.com looking at 2000 4Runner SR5's. I hope to get another 4Runner after New Years. Thanks again for all the nice comments, and don't forget to put a kill switch on any Toyota truck.....Scott |

Still hoping for good news for you Scott. On another note, anyone have tips on how to install a kill switch or is there a thread on it? I'm paranoid as hell about someone stealing my truck since I park in downtown Richmond alot. Like ChickenLover said, I think this is a worthwhile mod for everyone.

Just noticed this thread - my condolences bud....hang in there and just believe that "Karma is a bitch" to those who took your vehicle...
As an aside, I think the South Africans take car jacking and auto theft pretty seriously (with no damage to the paint) ...http://edition.cnn.com/WORLD/africa/...me.thrower.car James

Sorry to hear that. I just got my 4 runner but still would hate to see it stolen but if someone stole my Jetta I'd be lurking the shops and yards for my parts and packing for sure. I may wire in hidden kill switches on both of my vehicles just for this reason.
