Buying an FJ online....

I came across a posting on cars.com for a used FJ, the price was definitely a tad low but I proceeded to continue to gather information.

To make a long story short the 'seller' wanted me to register with an escrow website to start the deal. Being a network admin, before I even visited the site I did some background checking and found out the site is hosted in Ukraine, registered to a user in Russia. Once I got to the site the fake Verisign logo's actually did nothing. This was a fairly new site, not yet listed as a phishing site, I took care of that as well as reporting the user to cars.com - which probably wont follow through with any action other than deleting his listing.

Just a warning to others out there, do your research prior to following through with a car deal that seems too good to be true, because it probably is.

Thank you very much.
We have a scam forum here too, which I will move this too.

Your thread will still be seen in the FJ forum with a redirect to the scam forum.

I hear this stuff happens quite a bit.
We get about 100 attempted signups daily here from Russia, all spam/scammers.
They are using bots to sign up here, but they get stopped cold from the software we run.

Not so new anymore, you got two posts under your belt now

That is pretty good work you did though on resolving where the scam originated from.

So many scams being done via the Internet these days.
