Yeah, another 4.3L to 4runner swap question
I've looked around this site and other places on the web and still have some questions about the GM 4.3 swap into a 1990 4runner.
The '90 4runner 3.0 L automatic blew a head gasket and developed a knock, so we plan to retire the engine. We found (and bought) a donor vehicle, a '90 Blazer S15 4x4 automatic - it suffered a rollover during offroad manoevers but runs good.
First question: Is it possible to use the GM Blazer 4.3, GM 4 speed automatic transmission, and GM transfer case in the 4runner? It seems that many use the 4.3, add on an older TH350 (for the correct length), and then use an Advance adapter to fit the transmission to the Toyota transfer case. But is that necessary? Is it possible and practical to use the Blazer 4 speed automatic and transfer case? What problems or advantages are there to this?
Second question: Advance Adapters, Northwest Off Road, and Downey are three names that keep on coming up for doing the swaps. What is our best choice, given the swap we want to do? If anyone has experience with this, can you tell us what parts we need to buy?
Thanks for your help.

Search Pirate aswell for info on this. You dont have to use the toyota trans an tcases you can use the 4 speed but some people like the manual yota trannies and they work well and fit nicely behind a 4.3. Another stonger better option is to put a jeep ax15 behind it. do some more searching cause the info is out there. As for does it work??? Anything is posible to make work if you have the time, money and skills to do the job its possible and yes it has been done

4.3
I run a 92 4.3 CPI,700R4,Toy x-case in my 1986 runner. It all fits great ! I am not sure about running the chevy case. I guess its possible, check for clearance issues. I didn't go with the chevy case, because I already had my built Toy transfer case. Downey has a good TBI-TPI conversion manual, but its more of a sells pitch.

You'll need the engine, either the adapter to use your trans and transfer or the stock chevy trans/transfer, ECU and wiring harness from the 4.3, exhaust work, Chev fuel pump, motor mounts, possibly new tran crossmember, probably drive shaft work, and other things I cant think of.
