Awesome work man! Thanks for posting such a great write up! How much harder do you think this would be on a 93 pickup? I still l have IFS, and no body lift. I am looking at a 4.3 with an auto as well.

Thanks ej, I don't think it would be any more difficult to do this swap on a '93 pickup. The IFS may require you to use the smaller oilpan or mount the engine a little higher to clear, or at least that is what I have heard...the 2" B.L. is highly recommended.
Regardless the increase in power is worth all the trouble, these rigs are awesome when they have power.

I live close to Abilene.. about 15 minutes from the lake.
What is "the glade" ?
We love the durango, ouray, lake city area but this year we are going to the cressted butte area first and maybe coming down to lake city later in the trip.

It's been over 30 days since we have heard anything from you. When are you coming to CO? When are we going to get dyno information?

Come on TexCat

Yea, well... we bought a house and it's been tough to get anything done on the 4runner.
I have been driving it to work some and running some tuning logs when I do, it runs good and gets better everytime. I doubt I will dyno it anytime soon.

I have to change the throttle valve geometry and modify the seperator plate on the 700r4 so 4th gear will stay in firmly before I will know the MPG.
I got my full size spare tire and wheel today and got started on the tranny repairs.
We leave for CO last week of july, should be "good to go" by then.

We will be in the Crested Butte area around the 27th of july, for up to 3 days before we move south to Lake City for a week.
We were thinking about camping near Paradise divide and running The Devils Punchbowl and some other trails near C. Butte
BTW, trail reports and suggestions from the locals would be welcome : )

For what it's worth I built a power program today for the megasquirt that has an air fuel ratio of 12.5/1 to 13.5/1 and It's really stout, amazing how I could feel the difference as I moved the low end torque numbers into the 12.5/1 range it really woke up!
The cool thing about totally programmable fuel control is that in the middle of that map I can still plug in economy numbers for the cruise area so that I have maximum power untill I get off the throttle and settle into highway cruising and I can lean that section out to 16/1 for economy... I'm ruined!

Just a heads up the coolant hoses, Northern Radiator makes a small block conversion setup that uses some short rubber hoses and some 90 and 45 degree stainless elbows. I used the exact same hoses you did w/adj. neck at t-stat but I just don't like the way mine rubs on the vc. I was planning to fab an aluminum support arm until I found this.

WooHoo!!
I got my 4th gear and a/c working. Only 2 weeks before we leave for Colorado.
The tranny guy liked my rig so he tricked out the valve body and put in a corvette servo.

I drove it yesterday in 105 degree heat and the temp gauge stayed on 190 F. so it appears the radiator was a good value.

I will try to get some numbers on mpg now that the tune is close and 4th gear and lockup are working.

Mercruiser also does Ford motors...the Mercruiser 470 for example is a 3.7L Ford engine

I am not sure this will help you but I just ran the high pressure hose to a couple of GM quick connects that I ordered on ebay... 3/8" and 5/16" I think.
Good luck on the swap and sorry for the delay.

Yes, if it has the 8 bolt pattern it should work. Early 4.3's had more bolts in the pattern
