The new "chevy swap" radiator from extremeradiator.com
Really not any different than the stock 3 core copper/brass except they swapped the inlet and outlet locations side to side to work better for the 4.3
They should have used a 1 1/2" lower nipple to make it work better... try finding a 1 3/4"
by 1 3/8" flex hose 15" long. I will have to use reducer bushings and a dab of rtv.

update

I thought I would post the Gates part #'s for the radiator hoses, the short one is the lower. The rubber adapter bushings are for 1 1/4" but they easily stretched over the 1 3/8" radiator nipples, it didn't make for as tight a fit as I would like but with a good clamp I think it will work okay. I double clamped the lower.

update, taking shape

got the edis plug wires, and air filter installed this afternoon. Very close now, this engine does look strange in the 4runner, but I like it.

Wow I like how empty it looks in there lots of room to work unlike the 3.0. I am thinking about doing the same to my 93 but not sure if my 4 cylinder 5 speed will hold up to it or if I need a v6 5 speed either way I LIKE IT looks super clean.

The 4.3 fits well I removed most of the harness, filter box, pwr steering reservoir. Lots of guys doing v8's- not for me, I like having the room.

weekend update

I finished wiring the MSII relay box, I needed an Isolator for all of the extra terminals and circuits [ edis, starter relay, stereo amp...] so I installed this battery isolator switch to serve both purposes...

..finished the tranny cooler plumbing

installed the adjustable vacuum switch for lockup control on the 700r4, this will allow more control over the lock up and kickdown timing.

exhaust installation

I had my exhaust installed today by a local shop, 2.25" from the header on each side to 2.5" at the Y, on back thru a generic flomax and out on the drivers side.

The big question on this job was where to crossover, we chose to do it back of the t'case instead of the gap between the tranny pan and converter cover

The tailpipe exits a little too low [something I can fix] but overall its a good job- we shall see how it performs and sounds.

Nice feeling to finally get it running huh? I like the exhaust work!

Where did you get that shorty intake boot? What diameter is the opening on your throttle body?

The intake " Hat " came off a late model vortec in a junk yard, I found it laying in the grass next to several new chevys, the spectre filter from autozone had 3" 3.5" and 4" adapters that came with it, the 3.5" fit nicely.
The throttle body opening on the mercruiser intake is the same size as the stock GM 4.3 but does not have the restricter on the back of the plate.. right at 3"

You never know who will drop by to say hello - it's the P.O.
I got the wiring 90% finished today, maybe 30 minutes left . I have to rebuild the drivelines before I do the real test runs.

With the 700r4 swap there is a clearance problem with the tranny pan, its necessary to change to a smaller diameter drive shaft and it must be lengthened as well. I also picked up an old dbl cardon from the wrecking yard to convert the rear driveshaft to a CV type setup.

I installed the old stock 4.30 gears in the rear diff in preparation for a good testdrive, should give me 2100 rpm at 70mph. If I like the results I will install the front set.

I got the driveshafts back from our local shop, He installed the double cardon from the wrecking yard that I rebuilt and shortened the shaft -44"
The front shaft had to be lengthened and a smaller diameter main tube was installed to give clearance for the 700r4 tranny pan.
Road test tomorrow!!

You are sharp!! I didn't think anyone was going to notice.

The mercruiser intake doesn't have the coolant bypass fitting that comes on the automotive vortec, and my water pump has the bypass plumbing so I plumbed a bypass loop to provide a small amount of coolant flow to prevent hot spots during warmup.
It appears my heater still gets enough flow to work ok.

HA, I didn't think about the Mercruiser intake. I doubt too many boats are floating around with heater cores.

Right! No power brakes either- I had to drill and tap the manifold for another large vacuum port.

I have been tuning on the MSII, it's really waking up! I think I am going to enjoy this setup for a while.

It may need 35's or larger??
