EDIS system

I soldered up the EDIS setup and fabbed a galvanized bracket today, looks
like a stock plug wire set should do the job, will likely buy the V8 set just to have a couple of extra length options.

It looks like the B&M Unimatic shifter is the answer to my shifter problem. It has a very small base (note the template I printed from the online installation instructions) that will easily fit in the space I have, it comes with all the brackets, cable, boot etc..
I think the stock double shifter boots common in the first gens will work with a little trimming of the plastic shifter cover. Looks like another trip to the salvage yard....

BTW, for anyone planning a swap of any kind.
The one thing I have learned to date is...

If there is an option to get a complete donor vehicle - do so!

I have spent way too much time looking for bolts, brackets, lines etc... I found an engine from one salvage yard, then a tranny from another place, now I need coolant lines, shroud, alternator, trans inspection cover....

B&M shifter

I got the basic B&M shifter I ordered and have built the mounting plate from some 1/8" galvanized plate I had laying around the shop.
Simple but it should do the job.
Will have to modify the plastic cover to accomodate the full range of the shifters movement, when in park there is about 3" from the shifter to the dash.
There was a boot that came with the shifter that I may be able to use but will likely have to fab something from a couple of cheap aftermarket boots.

With the Alternator and a/c compressor set in place.

The TV/kickdown and accellerator cable bracket

Had to drill and tap for another vacuum port for the brake booster, being a marine intake all it had was the port for the pcv.

nice work!

I am giving a lot of consideration to the MS, seeing your quest for power has me hungry. I'm going to look at the low boost LCE supercharger, with MS tuning... Hmmmm, :drool

Very Cool, first time I saw your thread. I think a 4.3 may find it's way into my '8` sometime.

Have your tried putting the truck in to 4WD/low range yet?
Looks to me like you are gonna need to make a larger hole and maybe dog leg the TC lever..With the body lift and flex of the TC it is more than likely gonna knock itself out of 4WD....

Thanks ocdropzone, I have about a 1/2" of clearance in 4 low, I will leave the boot off until I can road test/trail test it.
Yet another reason why this forum is awesome is help like that, btw I have seen many of your posts/ threads and your 81 Trekker is way cool, That was a heck of a find!

Well just got the radiator today but my schedule is shot for the next 2 weeks. Will try to get some work done and post up the progress before Feb 1st.
The "chevy swap" radiator from extremeradiator.com looks like the stock 3 core with the inlet and outlet locations swapped side to side.
Only problem I see is they used 1 1/4" inlet & outlet and the 4.3 lower hose is 1 3/4" at the water pump so I have to find a short flexible radiator hose with 1 3/4 & 1 1/4" ends.... It really would have been much easier and better for swap purposes for them to put the correct size outlets in.
The radiator is several lbs lighter which suggests it has more aluminum, perhaps it will perform better.

Okay, the ice storm blows out of here tomorrow and its back to work. I need some ideas on where to run the exhaust. This setup requires that I install the wideband o2 sensor before I can start the engine

ice storm in Texas? What's it been there, like 45 degrees?

It's been between 0-25 the last few days... It's friggin' cold. I worked on my truck and had to take breaks to warm my hands with the space heater...

To be determined, but I think I should be able to use the old circuit pretty much as is.
Do you know of a problem I might encounter?

No, I'm just trying to figure out which wire i'm supposed to connect to the GM A/C compressor. I know that one of the wires from the compressor connects to the ground, but I don't know which color toyota wire connects to the compressor.

It will be the one that carries a positive 12v when the switch is engaged so a tester will show you.
I have to chase it down also so I can't help with the color, sorry. When I get to the shop tomorrow I can look at my old harness and let you know.

update

The shifter cable is not supposed to be exposed to high heat so I chose to run it behind the heat shield and that should keep it tucked out of the way of possible snags.

I used 5/16 brake tubing for the coolant lines. A $3 tubing bender from harbor freight was all I needed.

More posts coming.

Had to run 3 hrs east to pickup a po up camper my wife found on craigslist so I burned some time with that and some other work related things but I finally got in the shop this afternoon for a few hours...

I cut up an old chevy shroud to fit the width then built some brackets to mount it. This is after alot of test fitting for clearance... I still have to seal it up and paint it to make it look better.
