Yes I am using a 21 spline gear drive Tcase with the forward shifter, the adapter will accomodate either forward or top shift.
I will post up more detailed pics of the parts and thier relation in the coming days.

A little info when I was doing mine:
I had to remove the snap ring that holds the bearing in place on the front of the transfercase. The snap ring prevents the adapter from seating fully against the transfercase. I did not see anything in the instructions about that. The adapter prevents the bearing from moving so a snap ring is not needed. This looks little different than mine, but it is the lower one in this picture

Thank's Rocket I will check that tomorrow.
I installed the 2" 4crawler body lift with new neoprene bushings today and removed my old engine mounts from the frame and ground the welds. I should make some progress in the next few days. I love the way the body lift makes the 4runner look.. more aggressive.

While test fitting the 4.3 with headers and mounts attached I found that it required moving my fuel line and slightly bending the brake lines on the passenger side of the engine bay to position them directly above and outside of the frame.
![]() The headers, mounts and new starter look good. This part of the swap goes way too slow with all of the test fitting... but ya gotta get it right.

Headers on the driver side, note the upward bends to take the runners away from the steering and the tight taper that it takes to get the collector inside the frame. This swap needs custom headers!

engine mount positions
When positioning the 4.3 engine with the Advance Adapters mounts on the 1985 4runner, 20 1/4 " to the center of the mount from the front frame crossmember worked best for me, the mount is close to flush with the bottom of the frame.
![]() Working on the theory that lower and farther back is better this is as far back as I was comfortable with. This position combined with the AA adapter and a 700r4 and forward shift gear drive T'case nets a 2 3/4" longer tranny relative to the crossmember. I am fabing a plate to weld to the crossmember to accomodate the transfer case mount. ![]() Plenty of clearance in front even with the stock fan and radiator, should be more than enough for the aftermarket ones on the way!

While installing the new output shaft in the 700r4 I noticed the "rebuilt" transmission I purchased had some questionable parts in it.
All the frictions and hard parts looked new but the rebuilder had not upgraded the pump and had used the old stock band. I chose to install a 10 vane pump and a new raybestos wider band. I reassembled it today and will try to install the tranny and t'case tomorrow. Then its just the megasquirt, fuel supply, shifters, exhaust.........

Are you worried about the gear choice and birfields and all that with the new found power?

It's the birf's that worry me. Maybe they will be ok with the clutch type posi up front, but I don't dog it too bad while on the trail.

See, they would be my major concern while off road too. One tip a buddy of mine gave me was to adjust the steering stops (so you can't turn as tight). While you lose turning radius, he's never broken a birf and he is hard on his rig...

update
Got the tranny and t'case installed today as well as the new front shackles. I will try to get some new pics of the 4runner with the 2" body lift and the new shackles, the stance looks awesome!

2" body lift and 1 1/2" longer shackles
The goal was to swap in the V6 for more power as I researched it my only apprehension was the required (or at least strongly suggested) 2" body lift.
I wanted to keep it low for best CG on the trails. During my trip to Colorado last summer, I found I needed the longer shackles as my spring ends were hitting the frame under extreme flex. 1 1/2" longer would give me 3/4" of lift as well. This is what it looks like now with the 4crawler 2" body lift and the longer shackles installed. I like it! ![]()

update on swap
After installing the transfer case I found the shifter in its most forward position leaves very little room for the floor mount shifter. I was going to use the B&M Megashifter because it has the 4spd cable shift capabilities I need for the 700r4.
Not sure if I will have enough room now. I searched everywhere for the shifter base size... Gonna have to do some more research on this one ![]() Fabbed a plate to move the T'case mount back 2 3/4" ![]() Installed the open IAT sensor in the intake just before the throttle plate. This should provide very accurate readings for the Megasquirt ![]() The manufacturer says you can mount the MS relay box in the open but I had this box from the donor vehicle... so why not ![]()
