My 4.3 1983 Yota build
Ok here it goes. 1983 Toyota Pickup with 4.3 v6. I figured this would be a good place for information on 4.3s.
1985 two piece rear main block hydraulic flat tappet

Complete MSD Ignition system. Pro-billet distributor non vaccum magnetic advance, external blaster 2 coil, msd 6al digital box and all the wiring to tie it in. I had to order by phone because they dont offer that as a kit. Ordered from Jegs for under $900 shipped
Edelbrock #2114 Four barrel intake for 8 bolt vortec heads.

Some things Im concerned about are the 772 heads the ones I need to use? Do i just have to change valve springs to run my camshaft?
Do i need my intake ported to match my head?
Should I try searching heads from a junk yard and taking to machine shop? Machine work is expensive in AK.
Will my head/cam combo workout satisfactory?
Should have i used flat top pistons?
Will my carb provide enough fuel?
I know its a lot of questions... so heres more information.
My truck is a 1983 Toyota pickup solid axle, turbo 350 trans, AA adapter plate to stock tcase for Driveshaft angles, AA motor mounts. Its main purpose will be a trail truck eventually becoming coil spring, at least in the rear. It will be drivin down the road but above all else I want it to perform whether in the mud or trails.
Tires will be 35 12.50 I think, probably a swamper. superflex springs, heim or johnny joints...
I appreciate any advice I have been gathering parts for some time now and its finally getting close!

they make an adapter for the stock toyota 5 speed and tcase, why not use that? all your cross memebers would be the same all you would have the fab are motor mounts,and i think youd love it more with a 5 speed

Im putting an auto in it because by girlfriend wants to drive this thing, and i just like how they shift.
I had a 4 speed in my big chevy but swapped it out for a built turbo 400. much better, in my opinion.
changing the cam to the edelbrock 2112

This is the perfect time to teach your girlfriend how to drive a stick shift. Dirt, low range, easy. Shifting does get old though. As for the cam questions, I'm damn near retarded so I'm just waisting space on your thread. Seriously though, someone else would be better off answering that. The carb should be fine.

So Ive got most everything together, right now im just need to figure out what the deal is with my cloyes gear drive and matching cloyes 2 piece timing cover. I have the brass wear ring installed behind my cam gear, and when i install the 4 bolt plate w quick button the cam gets too tight. it says to turn button towards cover, install plate, run button until it touches the cam, the back out 1/3 turn and tighten set screw, i have no adjustment.. can I remove brass wear ring? its the original cam gear, and a comp cam, stock 2002 valve train and heads, 85 block.. heres how it sits, minus the timing cover is now installed.
