I put over 300,000 miles on my 2000 Silverado before I sold it. It never had any issues with the motor at all...the transfer case was a different story.

The 4.3 motor is pretty much the same as a SBC just with two cylinders lopped off. The early ones had a problem with vibrations, so GM put in a balance shaft. They are really good motors, the only thing that has problems on that motor is the water pumps leak every once in a while and the intake gaskets are prone to leaking oil or coolant or both. They are really easy motors to work on and pretty much last forever even if they are not taken care of.

I would'nt let the mileage scare ya,however since your not getting it now is probaly just as well. Why would he keep going up on the price ? That would just piss me off enough that if even ran I would'nt deal with him.Makes ya wonder about people.

What are the pros and cons of this motor? It currently has 115,000 on it, is that high for a 4.3? I know its getting there for a domestic motor, but have heard good things about this motor. The timing is the only drawback due to it being off, not sure how bad but i won't be driving it for some time anyway so do-able. If you boys with the 4.3 knowledge could help me out on this i would love that, i'd be giving up my 95 4runner with only 119,000 on a fresh top-end rebuild for her, i dont want to regret this decision, thanks.
I have a 1997 Chevy p/u and it has over 305k on it and she still has lots of power

I've got a 2003 s-10 I bought new with the 4.3 engine.

Ive got a 2003 s-10 with the 4.3 engine I bought new. It currently has 342,000 miles on it. Drive it everyday 100 mile round trip. One of the best motors they ever made.
