Ford 4.9L in 1st gen?

Alright i am a HUGE fan of the Ford straight 6, 4.9L, 300ci. Has anyone heard of this being done or am i the first to want this? if anyone has any info on this please share with me.

I've heard of peps dropping sb 350's in them, but never a ford engine.

Im not a ford fan so I do have to advise against it. lol

Uhm, it's a rock solid engine but is extremly long as it's a Straight 6, so no unless you want to cut the out of the firewall, it's fairly straightforward to put a 302 in which I'm considering and just recently came upon a 01 4.6ltr out of a GT, so will measure it out and see.

I work on equipment with Ford 300's in them everyday. They are a stout motor. Easy to keep running too if they are carb'ed.

Did have one die on me the other day. #6 rod broke and sheared off the camshaft right after the gear! Crazy! Never seen that!

Drop in a steel timing gear instead of that fiber crap.

Id like to see one in a Toy, but it will have to be custom. Bellhousing should be the same as a small block ford, so adapters and what not will fit the motor.

i am looking into it. im also thinking about just rebuilding a 22re to put back in place. So many choices it all depends on how much work i want to do and what would be the best option. ive heard you can get the 22r motors built alot tougher so maybe ill go that route????? WHO KNOWS? but that ford 300 sure is a good motor.

I cant imagine it would be an easy swap. Those things are like 8ft long...lol Great motor tho, I never met one that I could kill.... the rest of the garbage around them came apart long before the motors ever did.

yeah only issue would be the length, you can buy adapters from advance adapters for the 302 i bealive the 4.9 is the same bolt pattern...just gonna have to move everything back...ALOT

I seem to have trouble finding the time to reply also. Sorry. Well
any, yes my Toy is smog legal. It has the stock F.I. and a e303 cam. It has been to the refferee. I had the stock headers on when it was ref. So you
may want to consider using them initially. It kinda depends on how anal the Ref is. Mine was a cool old dude and just made sure the emission stuff was working. Right now I'm running Hedman's shorties. I believe there for a Comet or Maverick. It's hard to remember all the little details when the conversion was years ago. As for your motor mounts, I had originally used the Advanced Adapters mounts but they got squished and transfered alot of vibration. Even with the updated rubbers. So I went with Chevy mounts. ( on a Ford, bad ) Yeah I know but they work great. And they're fairly easy to
make. Just build some pads for them with some 1/2 steel and use some thick (1/4) angle iron to attach them. Any questions let me know. 85fordyota.

this wouldn't be an easy swap...and it'd be easier to just cut out the core support and crap..rather than deal with the firewall and dash..

the 3.0liter inline 6 7mg-te barely fits...so this thing definitely won't..it'd be like throwin in a 5.9 cummins LOL

I had a 80" Bronco with a 300 and loved it!!! but I really don't think it'll fit without a lot of work. Rebuild the 22r or go with the 7mg. If you want to really get creative get a 2.8 out or an older Datsun and try and get that to run. If you want to stay carbed get a 2.6 or a 2.4

Well I researched it and ya it is about 4" longer than a 302 so I decided NO lol anyway I got a great deal on a 22r block and am currently starting the rebuild on it. Had to bore it .030 over it's all clean and ready to be put together if I could just decide what all I'm going to do with it. I want power but don't have 10000 to put into though I wish I did so I am thinking I'll put pistons from engnbldr with his 268 cam matched with a top end side draft kit from LCE it's dual carb and head with header. Pretty bad ass really. But that's today and tomorrow I might be going with the turbo pistons and a supercharger can't quite decide!
