drivetrain strength?
I have a 1988 Toyota pickup 4x4 and I want to put a factory powerd 351w or 302 in it. im wondering if the stock drivetrain is strong enough for a351w or 302? I got 4:10 gears and 32 inch tires. plan on using it for hunting and mild wheeling. If not.. what axels would be close to Toyota width. I plan on doin a SAS at the same time.

its very dependant on how you drive, I'm putting roughly 300hp at the crank through mine and the only thing I've hurt was 5th gear in 2 transmission from pulling steep hills under lots of boost. If your trying to drag race every little car with shiny rims and stickers you see you're bound to break stuff. If you respect the fact that your driveline was designed for 100hp and your putting triple that through it you won't have problems.

If you have the money Marlin builds some Heavy Duty trannies, but they're spendy.

For the type of wheeling you said your going to be doing and your tire size a Toyota 5 speed will be fine. You never mentioned what engine you currently have in your 88'. If you have a 22re then you probably have a W56 trans or if you have a 3.0 V6 then you probably have a R150, both are good trannys and should hold up fine if you drive normally, like nothingbetter mentioned. I'm currently running a weaker G52 trans for almost 2 years, with no problems. If this trans ever grenades I want to go with either a W56 or a R151F turbo tranny.
