4.3 vortec + 4l60e = transfer case options..?

Ok, I bought a 1994 4.3 vortec engine. It came out of a GMC Jimmy 2-wheel drive.

That year had the 4L60e transmission. For smog purposes I need to stay with that transmission. And for my swap I need to get a t-case that drops to the passenger side front differential....

I have been doing research and it looks like GM has a specific part number for that year transmission. So, can I only use that year transmission, because that would really limit the number of available trans out there and probably harder to find.....

Next, I did find an 1994 Oldsmobile Bravada 4x4 at the junk yard. It has the same 4.3 vortec and 4L60e trans (case stamp M30). But it has a Borg Warner 4472 t-case. Can i toss that t-case and directly bolt-on a different t-case?

What are my options for t-cases...? Preferably a straight bolt-on option without $500 adapter plates.....

I just got done doing a 4.3 '96 and 4l60e '96 from s-10 blazer. I used the toyota transfercase and adapters from downey for the swap. As for the emissions I just did away with them and had fuel injection specialitys for the wiring harness and pcm reprogramming to remove the unwanted items so I wouldn't have a check engine light to come on and also for the transmission shift points for the new tire size. You could send them your old wiring harness for reworking or just have them send you a new harness. Iused the v-6 chain drive x-fercase since that is what i had but you can get the adapters too put your type to the 4l60e trans. The adapters come with a new output shaft that has to be installed which only cost me $30.00 but I had more work done to the trans.since it was already out

I bought an NP241 out of a Dodge truck (fixed yoke) and swapped the input shaft from a Chevy 241. It was cheaper to buy the new input gear from Chevy than go with a Chevy t-case and buy a slip yoke eliminator kit.

Well i went and got the 4L60e out of the Bravada. I pulled the transfer case adapter off and threw it away.

The transfer case adapter out of a 97 suburban bolted to the 4L60e and had the correct pattern for my transfer case, an np241.

Now i just need to get the slip-yoke eliminator and adjust drive shaft lengths.

Much better than using the Toyota case and expensive brackets i think.....
