4.3 swap VSS question
I need someone with some good 4.3 knowledge. I asked this over at a blazer forum, not ONE response
So my question:
I am swapping a 97 4.3 cpi vortec into my 4runner, im using the stock yota tranny, so the only problem i think i would run into with this is that im not going to have the vehicle speed sensor that is on the chevy tranny.
I just need to know if the motor will run right with out any input from the vss to the vcm(vehicle control module).
I have read about them going bad, and the problems range from wacked out speedos, to almost no power.
If it wont work i will just have to figure out a way to fool the computer.
hopefully you guys are more helpful than those blazer forum DBs.
Thanks guys

You'll get a check engine light, the ECM will never go into "closed loop" mode, and the emissions controls (EGR) won't function. It'll probably run okay, though.
Jags that Run has a lot of parts and resources for VSS conversions:

You probably have an electronic sender on the Toyota transmission. Feeding the GM computer from that signal will be interesting. I have the opposite problem on my truck. I'm going to have to drive the Toyota electronic speedometer from a Chevy VSS.
