Gauging interest on diesal conversions.

Going down to Brazil for 6 months and one thing that's big down there is diesal. All cars run on gas/ethanol, light and heavy trucks are all diesal. I'm thinking of scoping out wrecks where the drivetrain can be exported back to Canada or USA. I was thinking engine/trans with ecm and harness- I didn't see too many automatics down there except for upscale cars. Brands I saw Chevy (yes diesal), Ford (yes- again), Toyota, Nissan(Titan- turbo, nice), Mitsubishi, there may be more but these trucks are the same size as the 4runner class. The way it works down there is the taxes are so heavy to import vehicles that many companies just build them there and export to the rest of south/central america- so you may not see Mazda, Chrysler, Honda, etc, but Citroen, Renault, Mann, Volkwagen heavy trucks- wierd stuff.
Depends on shipping costs and I won't do it for free. I would gaurantee a working engine (or rebuildable core?) but parts and research are in your hands.

If shipping was reasonable i would be very interested. In canada they have a lot of diesels, and i know what you mean, they are cool! A turbo diesel 4 door ford ranger! We were looking into getting one, but getting them registered in the US is basically impossible without jumping through a bazzillion hoops. I love diesels, convert them to WVO and your set.

We don't have a lot of diesels in Canada. Some pre-90's Land Cruisers were diesel and some '70s Hiluxes were also. We can legally import them from Japan as well, but there aren't a lot.

Not as many as you think, you have your cars older Volvo, Mercedes, VW TDI, etc- then the heavy Dodge, Ford, GM. A real vacume in between even when GM got rid of their 1/2 ton models with the 6.5L. I saw a new Jeep with a nice 3.0L.
Only factory Toyota diesal's I've seen are pretty old.
