oy... you cut your front clip too. Please tell me you're putting it back together after the swap and not just leaving the grill off
Other than that, looks simple enough. What's the amperage on that GM alt?

pyrojoe, I cut the front support only so I could install and pull motor and trans together it will be replaced after every thing is done. You can install motor seperate with out cutting the support but then you have to bolt up trans from underneath.
The motor is too big on the diagonal to fit with trans attached.
I am using the stock Mercedes radiator in the stock Toyota location
The alt is 63 or 72 amps now, but I am giong to rebuild it to 120 amps.

I'm not going to worry about cooling till I have the engine closer to ready. Now I wish I would have kept that Powerwagon.... I bought it not just to fix up, but to have something to drive while the Yota was down. Now I'm sol lol. Haha I love acronyms.

Great Progress! Your thread has been so helpful. I am going to start on my pilot bearing adapter soon. What is the outer diameter at its widest point. I am trying to figure what size round stock to get.

Dmarsh,
thanks for the pics, makes sense to relocate the accessories. I have thought about using riv-nuts on my core-support to make installing an engine-trans combo easier simply because i am doing a mod, and taking it apart...tweak..and put back together...repeat as necessary(usually 3-4 times).
On a side note, i am still wrestling with using the OM617 or a 1.9TDI. I think i may start another thread outlining my conundrum. I'd be looking for some folks to weigh in with their opinion, especially those with experience.

This is how I located and cut out for my starter. Since I am using the Mercedes starter, I lined up and clamped the stock Mercedes trans adapter plate to my adapter, drilled through the starter boit holes and marked the starter hole, I used a hole saw a little smaller then the finished hole size and used a router to rout to an exact match
Using the router
Showing the bottom bearing router bit
Finisherd starter mounting
You could also use this method with a wood pattern to cut out the entire adapter plate.

Nice work, I never thought of using a router.
Maybe I'm not picturing it right but, doesn't the starter mount to the bellhousing? My r150 bolts directly to the bell, so wouldn't you just want to trim the adapter away from the starter mount area? I guess I am missing something cuz I'm thinking the adapter is going to space the starter too far from the flywheel.

RBX he is using the Benz Starter which is set up to run through the stock bell housing adapter so he had to run it through the plate. If you use the TOY starter it bolts directly to the bell housing.

Well the MB will most likely live longer but the toyota starter matches the toyota ring gear. You would have to put the MB ring gear on the Toyota flywheel to use the MB starter. I also hate the sound of the MB starter. lol

Well guys I decided to run the Mercedes starter for one thing, I know it will start the diesel and last a long time ( it's over engineered like the rest of the Mercedes) it already has heat shields on it, and it tucks up close to the motor and leaves plenty of room for a straight shot down between the frame and motor for a 3" exhaust down pipe

Check it out yesterday I traded some leftover Mercedes parts for a lathe, every thing on it works, I will clean it up a little and start making part at home. Any one need anything made ?
