Cummins to offer 2.8 crate engines (sorta old news)
LInk to article below. I'm casually familiar with the Cummins 2.8 as used in the Foton truck. I'm not sure how closely related the two engines are, but as far a small diesel's go, I think the Cummins 2.8 is better than all competitors except Toyota. Looking at the specs, this engine compares well to the 1KD, but lags well behind Toyota's own, newer 2.8 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GD_engine#1GD-FTV).
Anyway, as a fan of small diesels and old Toyota's, this seems like pretty cool news. I'm looking forward to seeing who whips up bell-housings, adapters, mounts, etc..

My plans are to make adapters for the R-series tranny's, starting with newer trucks, and working my way back, since it's going to be a lot rarer to see people buying $1000 pickups to put $10,000 motors in. But don't worry, my heart belongs to the 80's trucks, and I'll no doubt have an R2.8 in my Back to the Future truck!
