Want to swap my 5vze to a 22re

I look online and can't find anyone who is swapping the 5vze with a 22re. Is there a reason why? OTHER THAN the power difference.. I want to get an idea how easy this project is going to be, what I'm going to need to do with motor mounts and what stuff is extra. also WILL IT WORK. I have a 1999 5vze 4x4 4runner with a automatic transmission, i blew the head gasket. Instead of fixing it I like the old 4 cylinders a lot, i want to put a beefed up 22re in and a manual transmission to go with it.

Uhh... Why? the 3.4 has way more power and gets better gas mileage.

Rebuild the 3.4.

Just because you can, doesnt mean you should.

Go buy a truck with a 22re in it before you go ass-backwards

find a 22r-e to 3.4 swap thread, click "last page", and start there. then for the next step, click "previous page"

if you want to do it, go for it. but be warned, you aren't going to get much support from members on here. they (myself included) would much rather rebuild a 3.4 than swap in a 22r-e

in most states its illegal to swap an older motor into a newer car. ac wont work cc wont work. 22re's are only bullet proof if left stock. They have head gasket failures, timing chain failures and the primitive fuel injection can be hard to diagnose at times.

If you were to go 5vz to 3rz it would be easier to do.

Um.......Swapping in a 22re would be a lot more work than just simply fixing the headgaskets, not to mention that your resale value will be non existent. IMHO the 5vze is pretty much the best motor Toyota has made.

hmmmm... i bet this guy wipes back to front... lmao i just say that because well it's retarded as all hell... i don't know anyone who would want to downgrade. that's like a supra owner saying i wanna swap my 2jz with a 5vz.... and the 5vz is a cake to work on. it isn't hard... like one of the other guys said. buy a truck with that motor. and the 5vz is one of the best motors produced by toyota.
