Swapping in supra motor

haha hey guys!

well obviously im new to this forum (just bought an 89 4runner dlx 22re 5speed), but i have been a member of TacomaWorld for quite a while now so i know how everything works.

i just have a few questions about a supra swap just hope you guys can help me more than searching has. i bought a cheapy with a motor thats almost a goner to do the swap.

i have been considering the 1jzgte and the 7mgte motor to do the sawp but im still confused as to what will bolt up and what will take fabrication to make it work. i want more power than the 22re will put out for some trail rides, towing from time to time, and also just to be able to keep up with traffic.

ok the 1jz
-it will bolt up the the 22re engine mounts correct?
-the stock w56 tranny will also bolt up to the 1jz correct?
-if the w56 bolts up will it be able to hold the stock output of the 1jz hp/torque?
-if it wont hold the power long or wont bolt up nice and clean should i look for a different tranny like a R151F? or W59?
-lastly will this motor be good for what i want to do with the (trail time, some towing, daily driving) 4runner?

the 7M (dont know much about)
-this will not bolt up the the 22re mounts correct?
-this will not bolt up the the w56 with out a few mods, or bolt up to the R151F with out a few mods correct?
-the stock power output is lower than the 1jz so would this be better for the w56 tranny?
-is this motor better for what i want to do with the (trail time, some towing, daily driving) 4runner?

anyway sorry this thread is so damn long its just something i am very interested in and i want to start looking into options and prices, thanks alot for all your help in advance.

ok i have a few answers.
1jz - there is a kit to bolt the motor into the 22re mounts.
i believe u need a R series frankstein tranny of an r150 and r154.
the motor is a good motor. it should do everything you want. there are a lot of swaps out there that you can do.
1jz, 7m, 3.4L toy v6, 1uz lexus v8, and the domestic motor swaps.

i'm doin a lexus 1uz swap right now.

the 7m will bolt to the 22re mounts with the 5m motor brackets.

-Will bolt up if you use 5m upper motor mounts.
-Need an 89 or older supra bellhousing to mate the tranny (w56) and motor.
-Yes. IMO the 1jz would be over kill. But over kill isnt always a bad thing
-the 7m makes power at high rpms, and doesnt have as much torque as some other options. I think it would be great for a DD or when you are going fast on trails or desert racing or something.
I know some people have trouble with them running hot on trails and when crawling (any slow speeds) because of their cheap cooling set up. So if you go with it, dont go cheap on the rad and fan set up.

Other options are the toyota 3.4, or a chevy 4.3.
In my opinion either of those would be a better swap than the 3.0 7m.
Main Reasons- They are v6s, not the long inline 6 like the 7m so you have more room for the radiator and fan and junk.
Both have more low end power than the 7m, which you obviously want (depending on your desired form of offroading.)

And price wise, cheapest swap would probably be the 7m.

3.4 and 4.3 seem to be similar price range. 3.4 is a more expensive motor, but with the 4.3 there are adapters you have to buy.

As you can read in that link i posted, corax did his 7m for around 1k.
Realisticly, i would say that you are looking to pay 1500 minimum to do the 7m.

Im planning on doing the 4.3. My budget is 3 grand. But that includes EVERYTHING.
Engine, wiring, clutch, mounts, all clutch parts, headers, rad, exhaust system, suspention lift, and fluids, hoses, and all that other crap.

wow awesome guys!! thanks for the help pretty much answered everything.

but i just want more power ill use it as a DD from time to time because i have an 08 taco with 60k on it haha i wana give it a little rest, also ill be doing mild to moderate wheeling, and i plan to eventually get some jet skis so id like to be able to tow from time to time.

so ill look in to the 1jz, and the 3.4l swap i wana stay with the yota on yota. and like i said still have the power when i need it and want it :-)

The 3.4 is a nice motor and very reliable, but you can't compare the power of a 3.4L and a 1JZ. A basically stock 1JZ can put down 350 hp to the ground. You are not going to do that with a 3.4L
