Use the lexus motor + trans!

Either swap out the output shaft on the lex box for the shorter one in the runner auto (lex' output is too long!) or do as I did and cut off the excess. A couple more minor alterations and the transfer case bolts straight onto the back of the lex trans.

Awesome thread. im wanting to do the same swap in the spring. had a question and a suggestion for you.

ok the question. id like to keep my a340h. make a hybrid like yours, but keep the transfer portion. its mainly a money thing, but the wife does drive it some, so the no hassle 4wd is nice. i couldnt see if the h had the places for those sensors, or if cuz of the transfer is part of it, that id have to just get an f with a adapter.

heres my suggestion. i skimmed over a lot of the thread, and didnt see a solution to the header problem. if so, sorry i missed it. i was thinking about my swap and thought what id try is cut off the collector flange of you header(i was gonna buy a cheapy set of headers for a 2000-04 tundra), then weld 6-12" of pipe going down out of the way, and put a collector flange on that. summit and ebay have tons of j and u bends, and collector parts. should still be able to pull the engine with them attached. ive read a few other threads where the collector was in the way too. but thats my .02, just thought id contribute instead of always asking.

good luck on the rest of it, gonna keep watch till i get mine going.

The A340H model is "married" to it's transfer case and they share fluid so they cannot be separated. The A340F model does not do this.

In addition to the clearance problem with the Tundra header flanges the steering shaft is also in the way and would require you to modify at least one of the header pipes.

Thanks for the reply, didn't realize this thread was dormant for so long.

My question on the tranny was more of a "is there any reason I can't use the h". I know people prefer the gear case for wheeling, but I won't wheel enough to justify the added expense. I've been viewing the thread on my iPhone, so couldnt see enough detail in his pic of the h, so this weekend ill crawl under mine and look for those sensor locations.

On the header, I figure the flange would interfere. I was just saying cut it off, weld a length of pipe turned down and put the flange at the bottom. And a little modifying is fine with me, the headers are cheap enough to not worry to much.

Also, does anyone know if cebby picked up his build thread anywhere else? Id love to see the end result.

Thanks

Yes but as far as I know he never finished the truck.

He runs a forum called Ultimate Yota. http://www.ultimateyota.com/ and a forum call UZ swap. http://www.uzswap.com/forum/ He was an admin or moderator here at one time and someone, somewhere got butthurt over something and he either left or was kicked off this forum. Either way the truck was never finished and I'm not sure if he's around much on teh other forums either.

As far as I know, Cebby's truck is still not finished (we both live in Pittsburgh) and mine is sitting in the warehouse of my office also waiting for me to do this swap.

If someone else gets started doing this swap with the manual trans, it may motivate me to finally pull my 3.0 with the second blown head gasket out of the truck and work through the swap together!
