its really pretty easy ..
look at post #7 in this thread and you get a idea of whats going on with the cluster.
just a couple rivets and some sheet metal is all it takes , also cutting the plastic part behind the clusters in the dash so the new sc cluster can fit .

look closely at the fist pic up top of the cluster .. in the corners you can see the rivets attaching the sheet metal to the 4runner cluster housing .. really its only the front part of the 4runner cluster thats being used , the rest is all sc 400 cluster.

definetly be the way to do the next one its way easier than using the ls 400 one.

also ...next to the brake light in the cluster is the 4x4 light , a small hole was cut where the trac light was and the 4x4 plastic piece was used from a second gen 4runner cluster, glued to the back .

Thanks man !

yea it does , ive ran it with 89 and you can really feel the difference.

1997 up with the vvti heads has more power the gs 400 had one with 300hp 310 ft-lbs torque.
if you want it leagal you need a 1997 up 1uz, i think the biggest difference would be those are throttle by wire . opposed to the earlier one that use the cable . so you would need the pedal assembly ..

again this is what i think never done one of those.

good luck man ..

There is a wrecked 99 SC400 with this engine on Craigslist on my town for $2000.00 that I'm dying to get my hands on but its a bit too steep to break even on the other parts.

Oh I got a 1995 all ready to go. I paid $700 for it and already sold $500 worth of parts from it...and it I can still drive it around. My next build I'm gonna include a list of all the parts I sold from the donor to fund the swap.

Swap

Hey Man,

This is an amazing thread ... Now the real question .... Do you think this could be done in a LandCruiser FJ60? I have been dreaming about a Toyota V8 for a long time.

Thanks and good luck.

Heck yeah. The engine bay in an FJ60 is way bigger than a mini and fitment due to space constraints is the only hard part to overcome.

yea i posted the response kinda fast .. toyminator is right it will be so much easier to do in the fj . lots more room and that is one of the problems for installing it in the 4runner.

ok so thanks to maniacmotorsports and his thread it looks like we'll be able to continue this without the inchworm adapter .. Not sure it it will work for sure yet but so far it looks really good .

using a transfer case and extension housing from a 1997 4x4 3.4 auto T-100
copied from his thread.
we went ahead and picked up a complete tranny from a 1997 t-100 4x4 auto with the 3.4 for $300 .
started putting the pieces together , nothing major yet .
cut the lexus output shaft to 2.5"
cut down the 4 prong rotor(going to put some spot welds on the inside of the rotor and file them down to fit onto the splined part of the lexus shaft)
enlarge the speed sensor hole on the t-100 housing to fit the lexus speed sensor
need to drill and tap the extra hole on the lexus housing..

here are a couple pics i took with the phone , will get better ones later.

again a big thanks to maniacmotorsports for getting us out of this rut we were in.

ok got the transfer case installed .. so far so good .
cut down the 4 prong speed sensor rotor .. right down to the speedometer drive gear part

added some splines to the inside .. since we're now using the back of the transfer case to drive the speedometer, all this rotor is doing is providing the 4 pulse signal to the ecu . so the welded splines should be ok .. i hope .

the speed sensor for the 4 pulse rotor .. the holes are not the same .. welded the t-100 hole shut and re drilled in the right spot .. about 3 mm off

the sensor needed a 2 mm spacer to get it right , between the sensor and the housing .

drill and tap the 7th hole , 10 x 1.50 mm

pretty much finished .

The drive shafts still need to be modified , .
this transfer case has 3 switches on it
transfer L4 position switch
transfer neutral position switch
and the transfer indicator switch .

I need to check out the t-100 wiring and see if we even need them , i think we will only connect the transfer indicator switch .. but not sure yet.

we also need to find a speed sensor (on trasfer case for cluster ) not sure if marlins adapter will work on the one this t-100 has.
