Not really related to the engine swap but I started bobbing another bed. I took 14" out of it just like the last one. It's more than most people do it but I wanted the frame to be the first thing that drags as opposed to the rear valance.

Dayum that's nice work, you should see the junk I am trying to pull off. I though I could handle welding in a new quarter after a wheeling incident, lets just say....yours looks WAAAYY better. How did you even cut it so strait?

Sawsall and air body saw. I just followed the tape line. I learned the last time I did all the bodywork on the truck that it's just easier to buy the correct tools for the job. I always look at tools as an investment.
If you are doing a quarter panel you should have just bought a spot weld drill bit and drilled out all the spot welds.

Its turning out pretty good so far. I did some light filler work and then shot an epoxy primter/sealer over the whole bed. I still have some skim coat work to do and some dings to fill. Then 2-3 coats of high build primer.

^^^ haha!
man dude you do some good body work (at least in photos on the internet it looks good ) , i just welded a broken roof on a 2000 astro and i was making some bigger holes in it with the welder on its lowest setting and .25 wire . in the end it worked out but it was hard .
What are those clips your using to hold the bed together called?

They are called sheetmetal but weld clamps. They make it much easier. You still have to just make tons of spot welds and space them out to keep from warping the metal. If you hold the gun on it longer than about 1 second you'll blow through it.

If you look really close in those pics of the bed you can still see a couple of bad spots where I welded it. There are also about a dozen dings on it to fix.

Exo. I know it adds a lot of weight up top but I can't fit in the truck with an internal cage and I want to do the best I can at protecting it. I do all the bodywork myself and the paint I chose was a factory color with no special mixes to it should be easy to repair "when" the inevitable trail damage occurs.
