What's the deal with my A/C pulley alignment?
I wish I would've taken a photo but I was in a hurry to get things rolling the other day.
My A/C compressor pulley sits back (towards the firewall) roughly 1/2" compared to the crank pulley and the tensioner. What gives? Compressor is original unit from my '89 pickup with swapped pulley and the motor is a '98 from a 4runner. The bracket is on square and the tensioner pulley lines up perfectly with the crank pulley.
What am I missing here? Is it possible for the bearing inside the pulley to be oriented incorrectly?

Nope they just sit back like that. Done several of these swaps and they all sit slightly back. You have to use the top plate from your original 89 compressor, mounted to the top of the 99 compressor and have the system recharged.
Interestingly enough, my 89 4Runner did NOT have to be swapped, for whatever reason the compressor was long enough so I swapped clutched and called it good. Not sure what makes my compressor different, but it's the only one I've seen be able to stay original and only swap the clutch/pulley

Thanks for the reply!
Dang now I'm confused! So I gather I have to find a compressor from a 3.4? I don't have one since the origin of all my parts is convoluted at best.
I had the idea that everyone was just getting away with swapping the pulleys and letting 'er rip, at least that was the impression the "how to a/c" thread gave me.
Has anyone found a workaround for using the original compressor?
