No I have to get my vss to work to ready up my evap stuff.
I did not pass smog yet. I have another idea to get a vss signal. I am going to give it another shot before going to the referee again.

Update!
Sorry guys I have been a little busy, but I am back!
So I bought a Rostra Vehicle Speed Sensors part nunber: 250-4165 from
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rp...5/media/images
I found an spot next to the drive shaft where I needed to mount it. A heat shield was in the way so I removed it. This was not needed anymore because the exhaust is on the passenger side now. The heat shield was held on by a nut and stud from the cab. I used that stud to mount the bracket for the VSS. Then drilled in a sheet metal screw in another hole.
I then position the 4 magnets evenly around the driveshaft. The zip tie that came with the kit was so complicated. I went with regular zip ties. I may go back and use jb weld and then zip ties these on.
Mounting finished!
Now to test it. I hooked up my DVOM and turned it to AC voltage. Remember I need to convert this to a DC pulse signal later.
It worked!
The faster I went the higher the voltage it read.
The next time I post will be about the VSS buffer and I hope the speedo.
Thank you for watching,
Navy

Man, I haven't been here a while I'd thought you would be done by now....
Steady she goes......
If this doesn't work out, look for the speed sensor that's found on the 94/95 rear axle. It's a thing on top of the third member housing. You would need to change the housing cause it uses the teeth of the ring gear to get the pulse.....They were use for the ABS system.

I hear you on the speed sensor. It would be a lot of work, but I'll be up for it if I have to.

Still chugging along here. I had this weird issue with my OB2 not work with key on, but work when the car was on.
I recheck those 2 wires that gave me the no start condition. 1 was connector E14 pin 13 and E14 pin 10. Pin 10 was suppose to be EOM ground, which was switched with the OB2 wfse wire. This wire just went to the OB2 connecter and didn't ground or anything. So I thought I should just remove the EOM ground completely and put the WFSE wire in the correct location that I thought was wrong from my no start condition.
Now I have OB2 on key on and the RV starts.

Took the RV out for some driving cycle to ready up my monitors.
I got 6 ready, 1 incomplete evap and also got 4 pending codes.
P0440, P0441, P0446, and P0770.
I hope I just over filled the gas tank, but I am going to try to get my hands on a smoke machine. The P0770 looks like a lock up problem. I'll check the fluids and see if we are low or anything.
Another hurtle I guess. We are getting close....

I think I found solutions to all my codes. The transmission was 2 quarts low of atf. I hope that fixes the p0770 issue. Then I pulled the charchoal canister to check if I had any excessive fuel in there. It was super dry and didn't smell of gas. I was about to put all the lines back in and realized I never unplugged any connector for the vsv for the charchoal canister. Thats because I never added that connector or wired it :lmao: That should solve P0440 P0441 and P0446.
I also order rotors for the thing, but they sent me the wrong rotor. I also order pads, but I left my tail gate down and forgot about it on the way to mc donalds and lost those suckers some where  Oh well...

Sorry for not updating for a while, but (in short) found my evap leak. I had a tank leak from my welds. I fix that and now all my monitors run.
Went to the smog referee again today. She didn't pass again. Only 2 issues left.
The first is the neutral safety switch does not send a signal to the ecu not sure what that has to do with emissions, but I have to fix it.
The other is my exhaust. Last time he told me my o2 sensor was inbetween the 2 cats and should be behind both cats. Well I moved it, but he said that the cats are not from a 4runner, which they are. They had to be extended away from the afr sensor to get around torsion bars and things so they don't look exactly like OEM.
The NSW doesn't seem like a big deal. I probably just have to wire it to the ecm or something.
The exhaust has to look OEM with only 3-4in of modification. I can either buy new cats, which I am sure will be alot or modify the hacked up 4runners to look OEM again. I am going to have to remove the torsion bars and crossmember and just ride on the bump stops to the refree and when I pass make it look nice again.
Any advice? Anybody got some extra cats they don't want from an 02 4runner?
Thanks for looking,
superchiem

Here's how I'll get past the referee. I take my truck back to Texas every year on vacation and I get my DPS safety sticker in the window. I live here and drive on Texas plates..screw 'em!
Actually, I'm sure my truck would pass the BAR but I don't want the hassle. I wired it up to a '98 49-state 4Runner ECU. The engine and all components are from a 2000 Cali 4Runner minus all the ridiculous exhaust crap. I just have one CARB cat. and a Gibson muff. I have the '97 T100 ECU that I put on standby to be compatible with my A340H but I didn't like the fact that I lost the ECT pattern shift function because that was not available in the T100's. I wired in the 2-wire inductive VSS and hung it off the back of the trans and machined 4 slots @90 in the dust ring of the flange to use it as a reluctor. The trans will shift fine in all but 4-low. No big deal. I also adopted the post '99 (Ford-made) cruise control with the piggybacked ECU so that I can ditch that POS vacuum/pump actuator! It would have never pulled the throttle because it would have to overcome all three torsion return springs on the TB as opposed to just one that was segregated on the old 3VZE.
I really enjoyed reading your build! Thanx for sharing
.100" gap
Stout 6061 aluminum bracket. .250" thick, slotted for adjustment and mounted with a case bolt and with a dog point set screw to keep it secured.
Four .375" slots @90 degrees
.7 VAC @ 2500 RPM
Better view

Thanks for reading!
I just bought a rear CA spec Cat and I am going back as soon as I hit the exhaust shop.

Ya know, the whole thing that totally sucks with all of this California precedent-setting smog crap is not that the fact that what is coming out of the tailpipe is already well within the emission standards as that it had passed with flying colors, it's the "visual" aspect that they zero in on. Yeah, who gives a rats ass that the tailpipe emissions are really clean....it just that it "don't look right".
I have been in this state for 57 years...born, raised and still live in the same town in the I.E., and I have seen a lot of changes. I held a valid BAR-50 license for several years. I got out of it because of the bureaucracy that choked my willingness to adhere to the standards. It is over the top and nothing more than a revenue generating ball of s**t that is progressively rolling down the hill of
capitalism and proceeding to mow over the folks that helped put in motion in the first place.
Clean air is great;, cleaned-out pockets of the taxpayers keep it as such.
I have three vehicles in my stable that are all over 40 years old...thank God!
Two newer ones with Texas plates and my wife's '04 Stratus is the only one that gets "smogged"
Good luck on your quest to appease the ref's. I hope you succeed!
You have done an awesome job...don't let them piss in your Wheaties!
