Reusable? items from 3.0 to 3.4?

Hi,

I am trying to follow Elvota's 3.4 swap thread.

I am planning to buy 3.4 & A340 from '97 4runner and transfer case from '92 4cyl. manual p/u and getting used ECM for '97 3.4 &A340.

Item getting from ORS.
1) Wiring kit (should be direct plug in from 3.4, 3.4'sECM to 3.0 right?)
2) Cross over pipes (doesn't come with engine)
3) Header (exh mani doesn't come with engine)
4) power steering lines
5) engine mount
6) battery tray

Item use from 3.0?
1) Oil pan & pick up (does it work for IFS with 1.5 BJ spacer, 2"diff drop? or I need T100 ones?)
2) alternator
3) oil pressure sender

Not sure
1) dipstick
2) dipstick guide
3) union
4) fuse box
5) EVAP box

Please let me know if I am forgetting something here.

Thanks

Just go to ORS site. There is an entire list there of everything you need and don't need. Print it out and start collecting. good luck. I'm in the middle of this right now.

Hope this helps.

4) power steering lines - I reused the one off the 3.0 - it worked great.
5) engine mount - just reuse the 3.0 engine mounts

Not sure
1) dipstick - Toyota part number 15301-62060
2) dipstick guide - Toyota part number 11452-62060
3) union - Toyota part number 90405-10033
4) fuse box - use the one thats in the 3.0 truck - leave it alone
5) EVAP box - you can use the charcol canistor off the 3.0 - thats what I did - it worked great

Good luck!

Items getting from ORS.
1) Wiring kit (will make your life easier... but will make your wallet very light as well. Beleive it or not, you only need to splice 8 to 10 wires to do this swap)
2) Cross over pipes: (I have the 3.4 crossover if you want, then do this: link)
3) Header (see above... but if you want headers the Downey ones seem fine to me)
4) power steering lines (I had one custom made local for around $65 that kept the 3.4 idle up feature... check my thread)
5) engine mount (same as 3.0)
6) battery tray (I fabbed mine... not to hard)

Item use from 3.0?
1) Oil pan & pick up (basically, if what you have now on the 3.0 works, it will work with the 3.4)
2) alternator (3.0 will work... check my thread for the minor alt differences)
3) oil pressure sender (use the one from the 3.0)

Not sure
1) dipstick (yotaman nailed it)
2) dipstick guide (yotaman nailed it)
3) union (yotaman nailed it)
4) fuse box (yotaman nailed it)
5) EVAP box (yotaman nailed it)

If you are on a budget, you don't need to go to ORS for anything. Their products will make you life easier, and I have nothing against them. In fact I have read only good about their design and customer service. I definitely would have gone that way if I needed to.

However, the swap itself can be done on your own using writeups here on YT and asking for some help should you get stuck. All that extra you save can be used on other mods or just burned up in gas screaming around with your new 3.4 equipped fireball.

Dipstick and dipstick guide I reused from the 3.0.

I also managed to reuse almost all of the 3.0/3.4 hoses. Some required shortening, but nothing major. If you're going to cut hoses, I suggest using some good quality cutters and not a knife or Olfa cutter. They leave oblong shapes.

I reused my power steering hoses. You have to cut a tab off one, but no biggie.

Thanks guys,

I read ORS list and other 3.4 swap site, but Elvota's swap seems to be very wise and easy on my budget.

Many people told me about wiring, but I have very bad experience with electrical issue in past (not on Toyota) so i feel more comfortable with plug in wiring kit at this time.

I am sure I need your experience and advice on the swap in near future.

I like that my thread "seems to be wise". Not that you are wrong, the truth just strikes me as very funny sometimes. You'll see... the swap makes a lot of sense once you get under way. The engines are very close with lot's of similarities throughout.

Be sure to start a thread when you get underway. That's the best way to get strong support from other YT'rs. I know I would have been in deep trouble without everyone that chimed in.
