And for the smog or inspection, I do not have any inspections or anything like that, I would like to have a working CEL though. If I am able to use the auto ecu without it throwing codes looking for the trans, I will do that.

I think that it was 1998 that the plugs were the same. However, I am not sure that all the wire positions are the same in the plugs. Mosk's thread in the stickies would be the place to look, and then confirm with Toyota EWD's. As awesome as the Mosk files are, I found a couple mistakes when I did mine.

Running the auto ECM will work and a few guys have been running this for years (Neoworm for example). Especially nice if you do not need to have it inspected. However, there is no way that I have heard of the do this without the CEL staying on. IF that doesn't concern you, then this is a viable option. For me, I would want it done correctly, and find myself a manual harness and ECM.

Keep in mind too that many Tacomas came with EGR valves while 4Runners did not. That could present a problem if changing ECM's between the two. I would suggest sticking with the Runner ecm.

Thanks dntsdad
I thought the T100's were different than the Tacoma/4runner about the EGR, I probably just got them mixed up.
I'm going to order a 2000 4runner 3.4 5 speed ecm today.

car-part.com is a great resource to find an ECM.

I have gotten a few through that route.

I am going to order a ecm from car-part.com I requested a quote so I will probably hear back sometime next week.
dntsdad has recommended car-part.com before so I checked it out, plus I can't find any locally.

About repining the auto harness, that is what I was originally going to do until I read somewhere (I don't think it was on this forum) around 1999 and up they started using standard plugs, saying the auto and manual trans ecu used the same plugs and repining the auto harness wasn't needed. Since my donor is a 2000 the plugs should be the same, though I haven't been able to confirm this yet.
I am still searching if a Tacoma ecu will work instead of a 4runner ecu, because the Tacoma's are a good bit cheaper.
The stickies are quite good, but before I even started my swap I read all the stickies and all the swap threads I could find. The stickies are the best of the swaps, but the actual swap threads cover a lot of information on the swaps as well that may not be covered just in the stickies.

There are also some great threads that have been buried over the years that really SHOULD be stickies too.......Cadman's come to mine. Should be a must read.

Yes, Ive read countless build threads on here and other forums. I'm always looking at peoples signatures for a link to their build, specs, etc.
dntsdad, I agree that cadman's build should be a must read.

Well the swap has been going smoothly, got this in the mail today.

I am currently downloading wiring diagrams from techinfo. I am having trouble finding the diagrams I need. I am looking for the diagrams for these plugs. Just to make sure these are the two I have to splice together with the recipient plugs that look similar?

The second picture isn't working, but if you're looking for the 3.4 plugs that connect the engine harness to the dash harness, look under 'Power Source' -> 'Electrical Wiring Routing' -> 'Connectors'

Yes I have that one downloaded. All it shows is the location of all the connectors on the vehicle. I've read the connectors are called IE1 and IE2, but on that page it shows them on the drivers side kick panel. I can't seem to find the actual wiring diagrams for these plugs. The only diagrams I see is of the engine harness to the ECM.

Edit: Both pics work for me.

So, that second picture works from my home PC, but wasn't from work...weird.

There isn't one single PDF where all the pins for those 2 connectors are defined (technically they are in the overall EWD). The best advice I can give is to download all the PDFs then search through them later for "IE1" and "IE2" making notes of all the pin numbers and their apparent functions; they'll appear to have slightly different functions in each section of the EWD because they're only showing the circuits relevant to that particular section.

Thanks SacRunner, I've downloaded all of the EWD for both vehicles just wasn't sure I missed something or not.
Another thing I was wondering is the E12 and E14 plugs on my donor, they go up into the dash. I would think those would not be needed? All I should need is the E9 and E10 plugs that are on my engine harness going into the ECM. Is this correct?

Did some work today, got the crossover wrapped and bolted up.

Installed the clutch and got the engine bolted in place. Looks like the front end didn't drop as much like I thought it would from the weight. Here is how she sits. Also a sneak peek of some new tires I picked up.

Just some fair warning......i think that most of the guys that used the header wrap eventually replaced it, and mostly just removed it. Apparently it was trapping water and heat. The water will cause massive rust and the heat buildup was causing the welds to let go and cracks to develop.

I only know this from reading threads, so no first hand knowledge. I didn't use any wrap for this reason and everything is still great after a couple years.

Might want to reconsider the heat wrap IMO.

Thanks for the heads up about the header wrap. I wanted to add some kind of insulation since the stock heat shield couldn't go on. I'll keep an eye on it, if it becomes a problem I'll remove it.

Been slowly working on the wiring when I can and I'm hung up on a few.
Ok here's what I have so far.

IH1 PIN 16-E14 PIN 16 SWITCHED POWER
IH1 PIN 10-E14 PIN 1 CONSTANT POWER
IH2 PIN 11-II3 PIN 22 OIL PRESSURE
IH2 PIN 14-II3 PIN 21 COOLANT TEMP
IH1 PIN 3-E14 PIN 6 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ECM
IH2 PIN 20-II3 PIN 15 TACH
IH1 PIN 22-E14 PIN 7 STARTER
IH1 PIN 5-E14 PIN 15 STOPLIGHT SWITCH TO ECM
IH2 PIN 15-II3 PIN 25 A/C AMP A/C CLUTCH
IH2 PIN 6-E12 PIN 13 A/C AMP TO ECM
IH1 PIN 7-E12 PIN 25 A/C AMP TO ECM
IH1 PIN 23-E14 PIN 3 CIRCUIT OPENING RELAY TO ECM
IH1 PIN 1-E12 PIN 17 NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH
IH2 PIN 7-E12 PIN 2 BACKUP LIGHT

And I am unsure about this one,
Power to coil- I found IH1 pin 14-II3 pin 8, but found MREL GR-B going into E14 pin 8. I am unsure which one it goes to.

I can not find these on the 3.0 side.
IGSW Ignition sw
TPC Vapor pressure
SIL to obd2 Airbag?
PTNK Vapor pressure
I found the o2 sensors on the EWD, but no pins,
OXS Oxygen sensor
HTS Oxygen sensor
4wd detection switch

Please let me know if I have missed any or if I have some that are not needed.

Read This: HOW TO A/C FOR YOUR 3.4 SWAP THREAD. It's mine, I'm proud of it.
__________________________________________________ _______________

IGSW Ignition SW
- there's IGN1 and IGN2. One of the most impt wires is "IGN2 to Injectors" (II3-8 to IH1-14 on mine, yous will be different. Hope that helps?),

SIL to obd2 Airbag? I can not find these on the 3.0 side.
Of course you can't find them. There were neither an OBDII port nor airbags on your 3.0! You can use any ODBII port from any car and wire it up just like you see it on the 3.4 EWD.

I found the o2 sensors on the EWD, but no pins,
OXS Oxygen sensor
HTS Oxygen sensor
4wd detection switch-
- You'll find these on the ECU portion of the EWD.
I'd like to help more, but your connectors and pins are a bit different than mine. You'll get some wires wrong initially. I had to cut and solder several times before I got them a right.

You're doing good work man. You'll be tearing up the malls before long!
