How does the 3.4L handle high revs?

Figured id get the most looks here.

Just wondering how the 3.4L likes being rev'd up high. I hit rev limiter in it a bit, but im driving it hard, Ive hit it many times wheeling, but i don't let it just sit there and bounce off it for a long time. Is hitting the rev limiter and holding it there for a few moments okay or is that too hard for it?

I know a bunch of people who are under the impression that the 22res can bounce of their rev limiters all day and be fine as long as it doesn't overheat.

A few of us were just wondering the info about the 3.4Ls and how it tolerates such driving.

Discuss. Thanks.

I wouldn't do it on a regular basis but with the 3.4 being a bit overbuilt form the factory you're probably ok.

I would replace that T-belt right NOW! Yeah, the 3.4 will beat ricers. My dads somehow outran a Nissan Armada. I've heard that 3.4's don't really like to be revved. But yeah like someone else said they are overbuilt from the factory. I wouldn't let it bounce off the limiter for too long though.

but you dont have 3 angle valve grind like i do. Adds 20 hp. Also, are you running dyno hybrid full synthetic. If you are, you can run 8k rpm all day. Just so you know.

okay all kidding aside, as long as you're not reving to 5k in neutral should be okay and as long as you're not pinning the needle for more than you need to should be safe.

3.4 revs

Define 'revs'? I can put mine on the limiter all day, as the blower loves pushing it there & honestly, it just sounds great.

BUT- you're asking for trouble due to two main factors:

1. The factor rod hardware doesn't like revs, nor do the rods for that matter.
2. The valvesprings are pretty much done at 5500rpm anyway, and frequently hitting that # greatly shortens their life.

If you want to spin it a bunch, build some heads & get some good rods. Then never look back.

Jeff
