Heater Hose configuration ?'s

Hi guys,

Getting towards the end of my swap of an 01 4runner 3.4 into a 93 4Runner. I'm hoping that you all can confirm the heater hose (front and rear) configuration from the 01 block to 93.

1. Passenger side hose on block to which hose hole on the firewall (passenger or driver)
2. Driver side hose to the opposite of the answer to the above
3. T off passenger side hose on block to which hard line for the rear heater (passenger or driver side)
4. T off driver side hose on block to opposite of the answer to the above

The 3.4 hoses have the existing T's for rear lines but I'm not sure I'll be able to use these hoses to fit well. Any recommendations on hoses used to maintain rear heat would be welcomed.

Thank you!

Does this help? First two pics. This was before the motor was in but i think that its self explanatory as to what goes where. If not, let me know.

Here is maybe a better shot in the truck.

Obviously I have my rear heater lines capped off. You would run accordingly to the rear core

Super helpfull actually! Thx.

So it looks like you were able to retain the stock hoses but I'm not seeing how that's possible in my 93 4Runner setup for the hose that connects to the driverside port. Not too familiar with the purpose/function of the black box in the middle section of that hose. Any idea what I lose if I piece together a line that doesn't include that box?

Having a challenging time finding the rear heater lines in the 93 schematics I downloaded from TIS. That's what I get for not taking good enough pictures durng the 3.0 removal process.

Thanks for your help!!

Those are actual a cannibalization of the stock 3.0 and 3.4 hoses. I just used whatever bends here and there that would give me the correct fit.

The black box in the shutoff/bypass valve that is connected to the heater slider on the heater cluster. That control the heat into the cabin. I had to replace mine. I was rusted away to nothing. Just FYI, the 3.4 wont really work well for your firewall.

Passenger side outlet on block goes to heater valve if I recall correctly. And I used a mix of 3.4, 3.0, and straight hose.

I think I figured out a good hose configuration, but as you might have been referring to, the 3.4 regulator box doesn't appear like there is a good way to extend the heater slider cable to get it to fit properly. Just to confirm, when you replaced your regulator box, did you replace it with a 3.0 version?

Also, do you happen to have a 2nd gen schematic or picture of which how to hook up the rear heater lines?

Thanks so much!

Now that I removed the mounting bracket on my 3.4 control valve and flipped it upside down, it looks quite similar to your picture. So I guess my next question is what you're using for the mounting bracket (3.0?) and do you have any closer pics on your connections to the slider cable?

This one's a pain as I'd like to get all this secured before I reinstall my harness and intake.

Thanks again for your help!

I am using the 3.0 heater valve. I could never get the 3.4 one to operate correctly because of its geometry, even though I had a brand new one.

I don't think I have a rear heat schematic. Isn't it just line in, line out. I have never messed with one so I am not sure.

Thanks for confirming on the 3.0 heater valve. I must have trashed it during the 3.0 removal so now I need to head to a junkyard. Toyota dealer wants $100 plus for the bracket and valve and auto parts stores only sell the valve. When you said you replaced yours, is that the ballpark you paid or did you just go junkyard?

I'll figure out the heater lines at some point.

Thanks again for your help!!

I picked one up from someone parting out a truck or Runner. Cant remember.

Should be the same from 89-95.

Check the classifieds, or a junkyard as you say. I have crappy picking for Toyota parts locally, so I usually shop "online" in classifieds here and other sites such as TTora, Marlin, etc.
