gearing question

Did a 3.4 swap in my 94 this spring, and am looking to throw in some lower gearing. Stock is 4.56, I run 33x13.50s so the big question is, 4.88s or 5.29s??? Wondering what some of you who have done the swap are running, and how it's working out.
Thanks...

I recommend not 5.29 for 33's.

i got 5.29s for my 35s and it runs rpms just a tad high on the freeway. but I got these gears so i could run 37's later.

make sure that you actually have 4.56, some stock have 4.88's. if you do a google search youll find a way to tell what gears you have by your vin sticker...if you already havn't.

My old 97 4runner had 31s and 3.something gears, the torque was great.
The 3.4 should have good power. I would think that with a lighter vehicle, 4.56 gears and 33s the torque would be good.

The engine is tuned to make power along the same torque curve as the 3.0. If the gearing is right for the 3.0, assuming that's what you had originally, then the gearing is right for the 3.4.

I went to 33x10.5's and had confirmed 4.56's, even though the vin said 4.10's. I'm not the original owner by a long shot, and when I bought the rig it had 31's on it already. Anyway, I'm in a spot where I want to gear to 4.88, because I've noticed loss of mileage and get up and go with the 33's. It's not quite as sluggish as the 3.0 was with the 31's, it still keeps speed on hills a lil better.

Thanks fellas, I found a auto 4runner with 4.88s at the local wrecker, He'll sell me the diffs for $200 each. After doing some calculations, the 4.88s with 33s should gear me just a tad below the stock 4.56 with 31s.
