None of that matters.
All you're doing is wiring up the engine computer. Wipers, etc, are not controlled by the ECU. You're looking at wiring up things like the speed sensor and power. Nothing else. My engine/ECU came from a 97 Tacoma. No problems with the 91 4Runner.

Does it matter if the 3.4 is out of a 2wd or 4wd? Also I heard the 99 and up have bigger injectors and the MAF is changed? And the engine ECU is totally separate from the tranny controller, so I can use a 3.4(that had an auto behind it) in front of my R150F without any wiring problems, right?
Sorry, /hyjack

Its safe to get the ecu with the same motor from the donor to not f things up...if you cant find one for same year/tranny, you might be down a while looking for said ecu...
But 1500...how many miles...?

If you find the complete engine with ECU and uncut harness, yes, jump on it. Or, better yet, just buy it. That won't be as painful as when you land on the engine.

Not sure about MAF, but they did start using throttle by wire in 2001 I think, which could change things in the swap.

1500 for a 3.4 with low miles is a pretty good deal but like scuba said, If you don't get the correct ECU with the purchase you'll be searching quite a bit. An auto ECU will go for at least $100. You also have to consider the tranny. I spent about $2k for a motor, tranny, accessories, crossmember, and all the little bits and pieces I needed. You might be able to find a better deal. Just FYI

No throttle by wire on my 2001, I think it was after 2002, like 03 or mid 02.

I think the 4.7 is a little big for the engine compartment. The lexus engine fit but he had to lift the truck quite a bit and it still was really tight. I'd stick with the 3.4 man it's got tons of power and really easy to do.

so i talked to the dude and he has a 4x2 5vzfe ecu to come with the engine and all the accessories. im ripping out my front driveline so the 4x2 ecu will work good with that, but since its from a different vehicle and engine will it still hook up fine?

It depends on if the ECU is compatible with the harness and motor. You don't "have" to rip the front end out. Just leave it. But why do the swap if you aren't going to have 4wd? I have a 4x2 auto T100 ECU that'd I'd sell you cheap but if you are using a manual tranny I'd suggest you find a manual ECU. I think they made some changes to the throttle body in mid year 96 so if the motor is older then that and the ecu or harness is newer you are going to have issues.

I want to swap so i get more power and an available supercharger. Im not a mudder, crawler type of guy. i am a prerunner/desert type of guy and 4x4 isnt my things hence y i am taking out the front driveline and transfer case. My truck is also auto and imma keep it that way. i plan on buying either a Art carr or winters shifter for it as well.

So I got home from san diego for xmas vacation couple days ago.. and my house was robbed. NO JOKE. I came home to an empty house.... well they did leave most of my clothes. The local P.D. came and took fingerprints and the such so hopefully they will find the s. All my tools in the garage are gone, they even tried to take my engine hoist. They didnt find my pink slips tho (guess i hid them too well). n e ways, seems like my project is going to be on hold for a couple months while i replace all my and take care of all this. sorry guys, i will post when i have some new info
