I am about to make a new crossover to drop the exhaust on the driver side. I am using a 3.4L R150 trans with the slave on the driverside so there is very limited space to run the exhaust.

Anyone know if a 3.0L bellhousing from an R150 trans will bolt on to my 3.4L R150 trans?

it looks like I would either need to swap the slave to the other side with different bellhousing or go with a hydraulic throw out bearing and eliminate the external slave.

I would think that all the bolt holes would line up, but that's not where your problem would be; that would be the input shaft. I believe the 3.4s used a shorter input shaft than the 3.0s and as such the 3.0 bellhousing would be shorter and your input shaft may not reach the pilot bearing.

What are you doing about a transfer case? Or is this a 2wd swap?

I already have a dual case setup behind the existing trans with the inchworm adapter. I just pulled the trans and measured, looks like this will be the easiest/cheapest way to get more clearance.

Are the 2 different R150's the same overall length?

Can you crossover the exhaust behind the t-cases? I know the gas tank is in the way of running it all the way back, right? Downey Off-road used to run their headers with the crossover back there.

Where do the O2 sensors and CAT go if you cross over behind the Tcases?
Fuel tank isn't a concern as it will be moving when I chop the frame off behind the cab, only concern will be the 4link rear.

At this point I have already ordered the Howe throwout bearing. I was hoping to get lucky and be able to swap bellhousings with the earlier trans for a quick cheap fix. Oh well. Seems this Howe throwout bearing is popular with the 1UZ swap guys to gain exhaust clearance.

Front driveshaft and upper link for front 3 link have first dibbs on that space.

I planned out this build before I turned a wrench. Began collecting parts a year ago. Making an already built truck better. Then last december I scored a deal on a wrecked 98' 4runner and decided I needed a 5VZ instead of a 22RE.

If I had planned on a motor swap before I purchased a pass drop diamond housing and ordered up my link kits I would have just gone driver drop and doubled up a chain drive tcase.. So now I just need to make all the parts have get along...

The bell housings will bolt up but the later trans has a longer input shaft. I "THINK" you can swap the input shaft to make this happen.


There was a thread on Pirate I saw a while back with pics showing both early and late R150F's side by side and I believe he swapped the input shaft.


I'm sure it would also affect shifter location and other things as the bell and shaft are longer. Look for that thread. I think it's doable.


Or you could run the early R150F from a 3.0 but you would need a different dual adapter.
