3.4l enuff hp for d60 and 40"s?

So I decided to redo my 85 4runner, at first I wanted a 4.3l swap, lots of parts and power. I want to run ford dana 60 in front and rear on 40" tires maybe 42"s. Ive done a lot of research, thanks to this site and others, I've even sourced a 4.3l with cpi with harness and ecu but recently a complete 96 toyota tacoma donor vehicle fell into my lap with a 3.4l. Of course it needs a rebuild, but so does the 4.3l. I'm having a hard time making a decision about which way to go, the 3.4l seems hard to get more hp out of unless I spend serious scratch on a supercharger, 4.3l are easy to get more power outta but I'd be adding another huge step since I have everything for the 3.4l.... I really want to go d60 and I'm afraid the 3.4l will be under powered without a huge investment, I know its all about gears but I still would like to drive on the highway, 65mph. All my friends with building experience say with d60s and 40" tires I'd need a v8 to do this, I thought the 4.3l would be enuff but I have doubts about the 3.4l... any advice will be appreciated, I'm tired of scratching my head and going back and forth

There is no replacement for displacement. A v8 would be awesome for 40s, but the 3.4 will do. What about a toyota v8?

5.7l? Would be sick, been so deep into 4.3 and 3.4 swaps I havent looked into it, the trick is getting a donor for all the little bs, probably not many tundras in the junkyard... I bet they're spendy too, the motors that is. Thanks for the reply
