3.4 swap tranny question

I have 85 4runner with a 22re. I am looking at swapping in a 3.4 engine and want to keep it a manual tranny. If I get a manual transmission for a 3.0 v6 will it bolt up to my current cross member and drive shafts from my w56 tranny? also will the transfer case from w56 work with the 3.0 tranny? I was going to do a 3rz swap but the motors are getting tuff to find so I am leaning towards a 3.4 now.

I guess my main concern is messing with drive shafts, I did a 3.4 swap into a 93 4runner a few years ago but it was a manual so it was pretty easy. I am going from a 22re to 3.4 so it will be a little bit more work.

ok did some digging, not here but on marlin crawlers site, a v6 tranny should bolt up to my stock crossmember, and should be able to use same drive shafts, only about 1/2 inch different. not going to use the 4cyl transfer case cause it is a top shift, i will use a newer one. now i just need to locate a good r 150 tranny and transfer case for my swap.

offroad solutions (ORS) has a good tech section on the 3.4 swap.

i don't know how different it is from an 86, but motor mounts need to get moved back 4 inches or so on the frame. You need v6 3.0 transmission and transfer, drive lines, crossmember, parking brake lever. fuel lines.

You don't need 3.0 fuel lines and parking brake lever, I didn't on my '88 at least. I can't imagine there's that much difference b/w an 86.

I can confirm the rest. Not only will the motor mounts need moved you will need mounts specifically for a 3.0/3.4.

i did not buy frame mounts, just welding rod and grinder wheels

i used the original 22r frame mounts that were cut from the frame and modified/welded back to the frame and used stock 3.4 motor mounts.

I think if I remember correctly I will need to do a small body lift also... I wish the 3rz wasn't such a hard engine to find I would go that route..

with the crossover and clearance, the 4 cyl parking brake exits the firewall higher up and has a likely chance to melt. The v6 equiped 1st gens have the parking brake cable exiting lower on the firewall. As far as fuel lines, unless you wanna get funky or not run a fuel filter on the 3.4, its easier to run the v6 fuel line which places the fuel filter mid vehicle on the frame. The 4 cylinders had them bolted to the underside of the intake manifold.

I wasn't taking into consideration that I have a 3" body lift. My bad. I was worried how close my speedometer cable/e-brake was to the crossover but so far it doesn't seem to be a problem. Probably isn't a bad idea to do a little heat shielding anyway.

As for the fuel line: I just made up hoses and installed the fuel filter on the lower inner fender. Works great so far.

fyi.
the 3.0 r150 will bolt up to cross members from earlier years
the 3.4 r150 with DS drop has a different crossmember mount on the trans. and will not be a direct bolton.
