3.4 Swap Temp.. HELP!

Just got my runner back from being in the shop for some time now for some suspension upgrades. But now that I have it it seems like it's over heating. I was wondering if you guys could tell me what your idle and normal running temp is. I'm using an Ultra gauge to see some numbers instead of the original left to right temp gauge. After I hit 203* I shut it off thinking it's overheating.

I use stock gauge. It stays 1/8" to the left of center (on the cool side), so whatever that is. Using 3.0 rad and hoses with no rad shroud.

Thanks I think I figured it out. I believe I had trapped air in the cooling system. I decided to cut the t-stat anyway for free flow. No need to warm up motor where I'm from. I'm hitting 168* idle . But I did some research on the normal running temp. I found out lots of things that might help some of the guys/gals here that might need the information. Anyway here is what I learned:

-lots of stock 3.4 users have running temp of 186-207 normally. 190-196 to be the most common that I've found.

-Toyota OEM t-stat is 180* and runs the motor a bit hotter. Users have found that when they put new OEM toyota t-stat, they noticed a 10*+ increase in temp. When they put the old t-stat back they dropped 10*.

-most users liked the staunt brand over the OEM toyota t-stat.

Hopefully a little bit useful info for newbs like me

Mine at idle runs 188-190 outside air temp in the 90's. Highest I have seen was 215 after running it hard and then stoping and letting it idle. I haven't driven it much though, I also do not a shroud on my radiator.

I would recommend putting the thermostat back in as it helps restrict flow of the coolant. If your running the engine at 168 degrees I would say that is isn't running hot enough.

We all do it here especially the 4x4 community. Ambient temp here is 90* - 102* almost daily. This is a 90% wheeler and 10% commuter. I have a temp gauge and will post back what it looks like in the trails. I can already see it hitting 200* with the high rpms. The 168 I posted was from 15 mins of idling. When I had the overheating problem I noticed that it would take less than 10 mins to hit 200+ so time will tell. Besides that, when I did have the thermostat in, it wasn't purging the air properly because the t-stat was closed passed 200...again, time will tell.
